This post is for a 6 and 12 month fixed term Locum Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist
The Consultant on duty for the labour ward remains on site for 14 hours and does not provide cover for any other activity and is not available for private practice. There is a separate consultant to cover acute Gynaecology and Gynaecology inpatients from 8-17h during weekdays.
Clinical Responsibilities
1. In Gynaecology, you will be required to run gynaecology clinics including one stop clinics and out-patient procedural clinics including out-patient operative hysteroscopy clinics. Trust aims to develop same day access to scanning for all emergency gynaecology patients to expedite their treatment pathway and reduce hospital admissions. The post holder is expected to participate in this change in services with ability to further transform out-patient gynaecological services. The post holder is also expected to train junior doctors in intermediate and advanced gynaecological surgery during working hours as well as out of hours. Senior consultants are accessible for support and this is encouraged.
2. Labour ward work, management of high-risk pregnancies and complex obstetrics theatre lists during on calls is pivotal to services at DGH level, and the post holder is expected to contribute to safe maternity services in line with the recent Ockenden review. Contribution to care of both inpatient and outpatient service is required. Willingness to work flexibly and to adapt to the changing needs of the service is essential. Multidisciplinary antenatal clinics may require cross cover.
Medical Education & Teaching
Participate in the supervision and training of under-graduate and post-graduate trainees.
Clinical Audit and Clinical Governance
Take part in clinical governance activities including risk management and clinical audits.

1. 1. Hold the CCT or Specialist Registration.
2. Be competent in acute and elective general gynaecology services
3. Be competent in Gynaecology scanning
4. Be competent at day case and in-patient complexity of surgery
5. Sound intellectual skills, evident by a professional training base, supplemented by a managerial qualification or experience.
6. A willingness to accept responsibility, whilst providing high visibility leadership to a committed workforce.
7. Understanding and experience of working on service improvement projects impacting service delivery
8. An awareness of own strengths and weaknesses coupled with the ability to deploy them to best effect within a senior clinical and management team.
9. A willingness to guide and advise colleagues in developing their service, whilst acknowledging their individual responsibility for such matters within the group.
10. Good inter-personal skillswith the ability to communicate effectively with good knowledge of and ability to use spoken and written English.
11. An understanding of clinical governance and the individual responsibilities that it implies.
12. Knowledge and willingness to participate in clinical audit.
13. Be expected to take an active role in clinical governance
14. Be expected to play an active role in all activities within the department, clinical, teaching, audit, management and guideline work.
