What will you be doing?

You will hold technical knowledge and expertise in legal regulation, risk, data protection, insurance and assurance for England & Wales, Scotland, Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland, as well as the ability to provide excellent leadership and drive continuous improvement in managing client complaints, firm policy and business continuity.

The role necessitates the ability to explain technical detail in non-technical language and well-developed supporting, influencing and engagement skills. It is a cultural-transformation, as well as customer-focussed role: you will regularly engage at a senior level with Partners, Directors as well as 'Heads of' service and business managers.
Main Responsibilities include;
Design, implement and maintain the Firm’s Risk Management Framework and ensure it is adopted throughout the business to identify, assess and manage the operational risks it faces in achieving its strategic goals.

Lead the ISO 9001 standard compliance and re-certification audits.

Actively support and positively engage with the business to ensure that the Firm is fully compliant with all aspects of the SRA’s regulatory Code of Conduct and Handbook, Law Society of Scotland and Northern Irish Law Society Regulation, as well as all other areas of legal compliance including, but not limited to, data protection, anti-fraud, anti-money laundering and ABC compliance.

Design, implement and maintain the Firm’s Procurement Framework and ensure it is adopted throughout the business.

Ensure effective management and resolution of complaints including those referred to the Legal Ombudsman and SRA (and all other applicable regulators) through engagement and clear, prompt processes for learning and embedding compliance.

Ensure the Firm’s Audit Framework is up to date and that feedback and learning flows operate effectively.

What do I need?

You will have a proven legal compliance background, with a strong knowledge of the SRA Standards and Regulations. As you will be leading the Risk and Compliance team you will have at least 5 years' experience in law firm risk and compliance teams, previous management experience is necessary. You must have excellent written and verbal communication skills, with good judgement, analytical skills and the confidence to challenge the status quo when required. You will have strong relationship building and collaboration skills.
