**This is a part-time role, 1 year fixed term, 2 days a week, term-time only (39 weeks per year) Pro-rata will apply.**
**Job Purpose**
The Academy counsellor plays a pivotal role in supporting students' academic, emotional, and social development. The counsellor works with students individually and in groups to address personal challenges, improve mental well-being, and enhance Academy performance. They collaborate with teachers, parents, and administrators to create a positive, inclusive, and nurturing Academy environment.
**Key Responsibilities**
- To offer Counselling to students for a range of issues including academic problems, difficulties with peers. Behavioural difficulties in the classroom emotional issues arising from parental separation and divorce, bereavement, relationships with parents, attendance problems, anxiety and any other concerns students exhibit.
- To liaise with the Partnership Safeguarding Lead where necessary. A clear understanding of child protection policy and procedures and commitment to safeguarding of children and vulnerable adults.
- Continues to keep up to date with safeguarding policy and developments.
- Demonstrate a strong track record of providing emotional support to children.
- Communicate effectively within the Counselling setting to establish positive relationships with young people. Is pro-active in reporting safeguarding issues and concerns with regards to children and vulnerable adults, to Academy and line management, in accordance with Academy policies.
- To keep suitable case records on each Counselling session in a secure place, in accordance with the Data Protection Act and be registered with the ICO.
- Undertake one to one clinical work with young people.
**Additional Responsibilities**
- Attend team meetings and staff meetings as required.
- To maintain a ‘knowledge bank’ through written procedures to enable cover to be provided in the job holder’s absence.
- Maintain confidentiality inside and outside the workplace.
- Undertake any reasonable additional responsibilities requested at any time by the COO, Principal SKA and Senior Leadership teams.
