Specialist Mentor

**First Class Support** provides academic support to students in receipt of disabled student allowance (DSA). We pride ourselves on only employing first class support workers that are passionate about making a difference to the lives of people studying higher education courses across the UK.
Due to continued expansion, we are looking to galvanise our team of highly qualified and experienced specialist support staff. There are currently positions available for a specialist mentor to carry our company name. Therefore applicant competition will be potentially tough, so only the best need apply.
**This role is based in Lancaster.**
**Your role**:You will provide highly specialist, specifically tailored, one to one support which helps students address the barriers to learning created by a particular impairment, e.g. mental-health conditions, or autistic spectrum disorders. This could include a range of issues, for example, coping with anxiety and stress situations, how to deal with concentration difficulties, time management, prioritising workload and creating a suitable work-life balance.
You should not act as advocates or counsellors. Your role is to help students recognise the barriers to learning created by their impairment and support them in developing strategies to address these barriers, particularly at times of transition, e.g. when starting at university or when planning to move on from it. For some students this support will need to be ongoing while for others it might be gradually phased out or only be required at certain points of their course.
**Your Skills**: You will possess an in depth knowledge and you will be able to draw from experience when supporting an individual with a particular disability (e.g. mental-health condition, autistic spectrum disorder). You will demonstrate an understanding of the particular demands of study in HE. You will maintain a close working relationship with other support services, both inside and outside the institution and recognise when there is a need to refer to other services
**First Class Commitment To Our Staff**:
For this specific role, successful applicants will receive: £30.00 per hour
Ongoing training and professional development
Invitations to attend seminars hosted by guest speakers
A photographic ID card
A new DBS check
PI insurance, provided by First Class Support
Support worker prizes (when nominated by students)
Flexible working patterns
Opportunities for progression
**Additional Information**:
The working hours vary according to the needs of the student and the academic timetable. We are seeking support workers who are currently self-employed, or in the process of registering as a self-employed professional.
We are looking for fresh and engaging staff to alter the dynamics of NMH in a positive and objective way. We are looking for people to bring something exciting to the company as well as their credentials.
