**The Role**
We are looking for a Public Affairs and Policy Advisor to join our Engineering, Communication and Marketing team.
If you have exceptional report writing skills and knowledge of UK engineering, industrial, or energy policy, this is an incredible opportunity to work with IMechE members to inform the public and influence decision makers. An integral aspect of our work involvesrepresenting the views of our members in public forums, shaping engineering policy and providing advice to the media, employers, government, academic bodies and other institutions. We are looking for a Public Affairs and Policy Advisor to join us and supportthese activities.
As a Public Affairs and Policy Advisor, you will create high-quality engineering and policy content and help to inform opinion in the public engineering arena. You will write and present accurate and engaging policy and technical content to promote engineeringand develop and deliver campaigning policy positions to challenge the status quo and generate interest from the media and government.
Specifically, you will:
- Carry out research, including working with expert IMechE members, to create policy content
- Assist or lead on producing policy reports and consultation responses
- Present the results of these reports with authority
- Canvas members to gain a strong understanding of their views
- Provide technically robust content to support speeches and presentations
- Advise on the delivery of stakeholder communications and interactions
- Support the development of our strategy and policy development
- Horizon scan for upcoming reports and policy developments that the IMechE should respond to
**About You**
To join us you will need:
- Previous report and article writing experience
- Strong IT skills, including proficiency in MS Office
- The ability to demonstrate some knowledge of, and enthusiasm for, policy
- Competence in presenting to the media and fluency with social media
An engineering or other STEM qualification is desirable but not essential. If you do not have a STEM qualification you will need to demonstrate competence or experience in writing technical policy content.
Experience of working in a policy or strategy development role would be beneficial, as would experience of working in policy roles centred on energy, climate change, transport, and/or infectious disease control.
Knowledge of the UK government, Parliamentary Select Committees as well as an understanding of the professional engineering agenda, would also be an advantage.
Other organisations may call this role Policy Officer, Policy Researcher, Political Liaison Officer.
