The principal accountabilities are as set out below. The tasks under each accountability serve to indicate the range of duties involved.  Staff will be expected to undertake grounds and gardens preparation and maintenance duties under the control of the Head Groundsperson to provide first class sports facilities and amenity areas. The role involves seasonal overtime requirements which will be based on a rota and include evening and weekend work.

Though the role of ground staff and gardener have specific horticultural requirements, both gardeners and ground staff are part of the same team, and as such will from time to time be requested to fulfil department duties other than that defined by their title, and indeed other duties as requested, to help other departments of the school
- Maintaining the lawns, playing fields, synthetic and hard court areas to a high standard ensuring they are safe and fit for purpose.
- Prepare and maintain all football pitches including cutting, marking, spiking, brushing and other general practices
- Prepare cricket pitches for practice and matches including grass cutting, marking and setting boundaries.
- Assist the Head Groundsperson with all renovation work on the grass playing surfaces including scarifying, seeding and top dressing
- Maintaining all paths and car park areas so they are safe for all users
- Using tractors and other mechanical equipment, maintain the school grounds and parking areas
- Ensuring that all grounds equipment is maintained to a safe and serviceable condition and workshop facilities are kept clean and tidy
- Marking out of pitches for various sporting events and parking arrangements
- Assisting the Head Groundsperson with various clerical duties including record keeping and safety documentation.

**Desired Qualifications**:

- GCSE’s, or equivalents in maths and English are desired but not essential

**Future prospects**
- Possible chance of full time employment if the opportunity arises at the end of programme.

**Training**:

- Full training to be provided by the employer and KEITS at the place of employment.
- The applicant will be working towards and gain a Level 2 Sports Turf Operative Apprenticeship
- The learner will be allocated an industry specific training consultant who will provide both remote and on site visits throughout the apprenticeship.
- The apprentice will work towards an End Point Assessment (EPA) at the end of their apprenticeship.
- Depending on which apprenticeship pathway your employer chooses to offer within horticulture. You may also need to achieve all or a combination of the following courses before taking your end point assessment: Level 3 award in Emergency First Aid at Work, Level 2 Principles of Safe Handling and Application of Pesticides Guidance, Level 2 Award in the Safe Use of Pesticides and Abrasive Wheel.
