**Job description**:
We’re looking for** **an** Interaction Designer **who wants to make a lasting impact on how the Home Office delivers user-centred products and services.

This role is to work in our central User-Centred Design Operations team which supports the User-Centred Design community across the organisation to do their jobs better and quicker, so that they can help deliver some of the most impactful services that government offers. We do this by providing guidance, tools, specialised services, training and facilitating a collaborative and supportive community.

Interaction Designers are responsible for designing the flow of user interactions services as well as the right components and layout.

You will have an understanding of the way the internet works, experience of designing in an agile environment and want to help government transform the way it delivers services.

We’re looking for people who are collaborative, inclusive, open to their work being critiqued and who are empathetic towards their colleagues and users. A healthy balance of determinism and pragmatism will be needed on our complex services and products.

**Person specification**:
Your main day-to-day responsibilities will include:

- Coordinating the work around our Home Office Design System ensuring that delivery teams contribute, managing our working group and making improvements to the website;
- Helping continuously improve UCD Ops’ services to the UCD community by delivering improvements to standards, guidance, training and support we provide;
- Providing expert Interaction Design support and consultation to delivery teams with a focus on accessibility;
- Developing concepts and interactive prototypes to communicate and test ideas with users and stakeholders;
- Helping facilitate the design process on your team by participating in workshops, actively seeking feedback, mapping processes and visualising design problems;
- Supporting and mentoring more inexperienced Interaction Designers, allocating tasks and providing them with guidance and constructive feedback;
- Being an active part of the user-centred design community, sharing your knowledge and experience.

**Essential Skills**

You’ll have a demonstrable passion for user-centred design, with the following skills or some experience in:

- Visual and interaction design to create usable, accessible and responsive user interfaces
- Communicating ideas through sketching, concept creation and designing prototypes at different levels of fidelity
- Coding HTML and CSS for the purposes of creating interactive prototypes
- User-centred methodology including understanding user needs, taking part in research activities and interpreting user research to inform design
- Working and collaborating in an agile team, using test and learn methods to iterate designs
- Facilitating the design process on a team, by running workshops and inviting collaboration with other professions
- Advocating for user-centred design to a range
