We are seeking an enthusiastic and proactive Senior Technical Specialist to join our dynamic radio astronomy engineering team, which strives to operate and enhance the eMERLIN National Facility, providing world-leading radio astronomical observations to UK and overseas scientists studying multiple aspects of the universe. With a commitment to customer service excellence and a passion for science and engineering, the Senior Technical Specialist will provide an agile technical support service to staff and students to support teaching, research and professional services. FSE’s research and teaching quality is recognised globally; this is an exciting opportunity to join us in Manchester and contribute to the provision of a sector leading technical service.

As the senior lead on state of the art high-speed digitization technology at the observatory the Senior Technical Specialist will be responsible for establishing a small team of highly skilled engineers and scientists to develop the next generation of radio astronomy digitizers and signal processors to interface between the eMERLIN radio telescopes and the new Software Correlator currently under development at Jodrell Bank Observatory.

**Duties will include the following.**
- Formulating comprehensive requirements specifications for the new digitization and signal processing system, in consultation with senior scientists and engineers at the observatory.
- Design and implement hardware and software to meet the needs of the enhanced eMERLIN radio astronomy array.
- Reviewing and assessing related innovations at other universities, observatories and science institutions world-wide.
- Lead, manage and develop a team of scientist and technicians at Jodrell Bank Observatory in the development of innovative hardware and software to provide the digitization and signal processing interface between the eMERLIN radio telescopes and the new Software Correlator at Jodrell Bank.
- Proactively engage with all stakeholders internal and external to the university by building positive relationships to help drive successful outcomes.
