Role:
To assist the Head Cook in all aspects of preparing and serving nutritionally balanced and well-presented meals and undertake delegated responsibilities in the absence of Head Cook.
Main duties and responsibilities:
- To carry out any duties as directed by the kitchen staff including the preparation of meals and snacks in accordance with Safer Food Better Business.
- Plan menus to provide balanced, varied and interesting meals for residents and staff where agreed, providing where necessary for any special diets, taking note of residents individual needs and preferences.
- Keep records, e.g. check food stocks, listing requirements and ordering as required by the Care and Business Manager. Order provisions and take receipt of deliveries and check against orders.
- Prepare, cook and serve meals and/or packed lunches and organise and assist in clearing and washing up, leaving kitchen clean and tidy and in a hygienic condition. Report faulty or damaged appliances to the Home Manager.
- Make available to resident’s ingredients that will allow them to make drinks and snacks for themselves, when undertaking cooking activities.
- Assist the Head Cook in the planning of menus to provide well-balanced, varied and nutritional meals, including specific dietary needs, individual preferences and choice.
- Working with other staff to ensure hygiene practices are maintained.
- Report and document any faulty or damaged appliances to the Senior Care leading the shift.
- To plan and cater for functions and parties as required, such as fairs and evening functions. To take part in baking for functions such as cake stall items.
- To work without supervision when the Head Coo is absent for short or planned periods including rest days and annual leave.
- To ensure all waste including those recyclable items in kitchen is disposed of appropriately.
- To follow the Penrice House dress code and wear correct P.P.E as advised and appropriate.
- To carry out other duties reasonably required to ensure the successful and functional running of the kitchen.
- To observe confidentiality at all times. To always act with both personal and professional integrity and respect for others, when liaising with other as part of the Penrice House team.
- To ensure that your practice and your work is within the principles laid out in The Health and Safety at Work guidance, Care Quality Commission regulatory guidance, Equality Act 2010 regulations and Safer Foods Better Business.
- You are required to undertake statutory and mandatory training and development, along with regular supervision time and meetings to maintain your role.
Uniform and meals provided. Plus £2 per hour weekend increment and double time bank holidays
**Job Type**: Part-time
**Salary**: £10.00-£20.00 per hour
