The Air Ambulance Service provides two very important functions, Helicopter Emergency Medical Services (HEMS) and The Children’s Air Ambulance which provides paediatric transfers across the UK. Our objective is to save lives, utilising specialist pilots, doctors, and paramedics and with our work centred on saving lives, improving clinical outcomes and being able to react quickly and efficiently to emergencies.

The role of Head of Property and Facilities will report to the Finance Director and will work closely with members of the Senior Management Team. You will also line manage a minimum of two members of the team
The role is both tactical and strategic in its intent and its purpose is to develop and deliver the Property and Facilities strategy through effective leadership. You will deliver a set of functional objectives to support the ambitions of the organisation whilst being a leading part of exciting growth, challenge and change as we expand our National Children’s Air Ambulance Service and extend our HEMS provision. The portfolio currently consists of 60 retail units, 1 head office, 1 warehouse and 4 airbases.

**Person Specification**:
The role holder will be a practising Chartered Surveyor and have a proven track record of leadership. Ideally having previously worked in a similar role for another charity or retailer. You will have experience in implementing a culture of continuous improvement across multiple sites. Priorities within this role can change often and you will be able to evaluate and rectify time critical situations as they arise. Ideally you will have a minimum of five years post qualification experience.
***Role Responsibilities**:
- Develop and deliver short, medium and longer term strategies for property, facilities and fleet to support the organisations vision.
- Lead and support a multi-disciplined team (facilities and shop fits, fleet and property compliance)., Being accountable for the tactical delivery of the functions strategy. Establish metrics to measure performance, providing outstanding customer service to internal clients with a continual want to improve.- Draft business cases (with the support of retail) and present to Board on new stores, relocations, closures and refits based on clear parameters
- Manage the relationship with solicitors to see transactional property matters through to completion
- Be the point of contact for the organisations utility broker and insurer on relevant matters
- Lead (jointly) on the organisations green strategy. Supporting the facilities manager with projects on reducing the portfolios carbon output and reducing waste. Experience in sustainability planning. Have an understanding on MEES and be able to provide confident advice on what steps the charity should be taking in advance.
- Lead on the organisations ESOS submission
- Develop and improve internal policy, processes and supporting documents and implement best practice
- Support and provide advice on new operational bases
- Provide recommendations and solutions for reducing costs within the function having experience in the procurement process.
- Budget responsibility for the function
- Accountable for property compliance and documentation across all locations and vehicles to ensure TAAS/TAAST are working well within the legal parameters.
- Support every individual in the team and across the organisation in taking increased responsibility for their actions and ensuring those actions are considered, safe and risks mitigated.
- Ensure any escalations that arise throughout the function are managed effectively.
- Support the team with their personal development.
- Provide reporting and regular updates to the Senior Management Team, Executive Leadership Team and Board.
