Head of PSHE
- Grade: M1 - UPS3 + TLR 2 (£3016.65)_
Leading, managing and developing PSHE
- To actively and positively promote PSHE within the academy and develop appropriate syllabuses, materials, schemes of work and homework to provide an up-to-date engaging curriculum that gives students the best chance of success.
- To strategically manage the department to secure continued improvement linked to the whole school vision and improvement planning.
- To ensure the effective planning, teaching and implementation of the curriculum at Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4.
- To maintain a mutually supportive and developmental dialogue on curricular issues both within the department and with colleagues elsewhere.
- To lead and monitor the department’s budget to ensure value for money and school financial policies and procedures are followed.
- To manage the ordering organising and secure storage of the department’s resources.
- To ensure the continued delivery of an effective and meaningful curriculum for all classes of an absent member to the department.
- To represent the department at Departmental Curriculum Committee and on other appropriate whole school bodies such as relevant working parties.
- To monitor and work with the leadership team to ensure the provision of suitable accommodation, equipment and teaching space as resourced from the central budget.
- To ensure that the whole school assembly and tutor programme support student development in PSHE.
Impact on the educational progress of learners
- To monitor learners’ work and the assessment of learners’ performance, including internal and external examinations, linking data gathered to challenging target-setting and robust intervention strategies.
- To improve standards of learning and outcomes for identified groups including Pupil Premium, More Able and CLA students.
- To work with other members of staff, the SENDCO and associate staff to ensure the effective delivery of a suitability differentiated curriculum to all learners.
- To monitor and maintain high standards of classroom behaviour and discipline, celebrate student success and promote positive behaviour for learning.
- To develop parental engagement such as providing parents with appropriate information about course content and, in conjunction with the Head of Year, to deal with any problems or queries.
Leading, developing and enhancing the teaching practise of other staff
- To promote good teaching across the school
- To ensure rigorous, effective self-evaluation of the department which leads to well targeted support for colleagues to promote professional development.
- To ensure effective teamwork is used to achieve shared goals.
- To convene regular departmental meetings with a clear and open agenda, effectively minuted with a focus on teaching and learning.
- To arrange for the department to be represented at other meetings as appropriate.
- To advise on the deployment of teachers to classes.
Form Tutor:
- To be a form tutor to as assigned group of students
- To promote the general progress and well-being of students in your form group
- To communicate effectively with parents/carers/guardians as well as external agencies where appropriate and to follow agreed school communication procedures.
- To take part in an open evening and parents evenings as appropriate
- To register students and accompany them to assemblies and encourage their full attendance at the school
- To actively encourage student participation in wider school life
- To contribute to and maintain student records for individuals within the form group
Whole School Responsibilities:
- To contribute to whole school planning and development activities
- To take a full part in the staff INSET programme
- To engage actively and positively in the school performance management process
- To contribute to the monitoring and evaluation procedures within the school - Including evaluation against quality standards and performance criteria.
- To play a full part in the life of the school/wider community and support the ethos, aims and mission statement of the school and encourage others to follow this example
- To follow in full all school policies and procedures
Miscellaneous:
- To undertake any further tasks which could be reasonably expected by the School.
