**Description of Team / Department** Legal

**Purpose of / Responsibilities of the role** Assisting the Hanson business and legal department as described below; primary responsibility for legal issues in Hanson UK rests with the Legal Director / Head of Legal but with the support of this role (Construction and Infrastructure Counsel / CommercialSolicitor)

First principal point of direct contact for the various UK businesses and their respective Managing Directors / boards, for managing and preparing / drafting customer / commercial (non-contentious construction) contracts:

- UK's **Major Projects Major Infrastructure Projects**:

- UK's leading **Carbon Capture** & Storage Projects
- **Contracting business** (JV’s, Highways England, main local authorities procurement, asphalt and contracting motorways / smart motorway investments
- Responsibility also for managing / drafting / negotiating Hanson’s UK **CAPEX** investment / engineering / EPC contracts for Hanson’s own procurement of major plant and operations
- Managing the suite of procurement templates required for CAPEX works for operations’ use
- All involve drafting / negotiating construction contracts
- Management of Hanson’s contentious / **Litigation**matters

**Skills / Experience**
- At least c.three - five years+ UK PQE as a solicitor (with a commercial / construction experience and experience of drafting and negotiating construction contracts e.g. NEC etc) from construction law firm/dept and/or from similar in house EPC role
- Ability to deliver projects per deadlines with suitable milestones and management / delegation / cost control
- Willingness / ability to lead in managing litigation (and appointed external counsel)
- Legal Competence appropriate to PQE status
- Management skills
- Leadership skills
