You will need to have outstanding communication skills - you will be part of a team of fellow Health Care Support Workers, physician's assistants, registered nurses and nurse practitioners, junior Doctors and consultants.
You will be expected to communicate with these members of the team, along with liaising with our ward clerks on admissions, transfers and discharges.
**Your day to day routine will consist of but is not limited to**: meeting patients hygiene and toileting needs, serving meals and assisting patients to eat and drink, taking and recording of vital observations, blood glucose levels, maintaining good levels of stock and PPE, assisting with wound dressings, disposing of hazardous waste safely and correctly and documenting in patients notes.
You will be expected to have a good standard of literacy and numeracy, due to being required to document about the patients skin and the taking and recording of vital signs.
There will be the opportunity to further develop with training and education, we enroll all of our Health Care Support Workers onto basic life support training,
Work cooperatively as part of the multi-disciplinary team supporting colleagues in work associated with patient care.
Understand own level of responsibility and accountability in relation to registered staff.
Communicate clearly, effectively and appropriately with the multidisciplinary team, patients and their family, visitors and carers.
Through practice demonstrate an understanding of Duty of Care and how this contributes to safe practices.
Assist and as required provide patients with personal care
Following appropriate training and supervised practice, undertake identified competency based practices which are required for the ward / unit, after such tasks have been delegated to them by a registered nurse.
Identify learning and development needs and produce a personal development plans in conjunction with your line manager / supervisor.
Achieve and maintain competence in mandatory and statutory training associated with the role.
Complete documentation of care in line with the Trust Standards for Documentation.
The post-holder must act in such a way as to promote a positive image of UHB NHS Foundation Trust at all times.

Clinical Support Role
Under direct supervision assist with the delivery of care plan as described by the Registered Nurse/ Midwife
Assist patients with their care needs as required reporting any change in the patients condition to the registered nurse/ midwife
Support the Registered Nurse/ Midwife and other health professionals with the mobilization or transfer of patients
Develop awareness of patients in pain and discomfort and report any changes in the patientscondition to the registered Nurse/ Midwife
Have an awareness of patients dietary needs, delivering meals, providing patients with drinks where necessary and providing assistance with eating and drinking if required
Demonstrate an understanding of the different needs of individual patients and their carers/ families
Develop an awareness of vulnerable patients and their safe guarding needsUnder supervision, take and record the patients observations (e.g. temperature, blood pressure) as required and inform the registered nurse/ midwife of any changes in the patientscondition
Support the patients with their elimination needs recording quantities and frequency on the relevant documentation charts as prescribed by the Registered Nurse/ Midwife
Develop an awareness of effective pressure area care and skin assessment supporting the patient to maintain their skin integrity
Support the Registered Nurse/ Midwife and other health professionals to provide the patients and their families with safe, excellent, respectful and kind care.
Work with the Registered Nurse/ Midwife to engage with patients and communicate with them about their experiences during their stay, for example providing patients with the Friends and Family Test questionnaire
To work with the Registered Nurse/ Midwife to support the safe discharge/ transfer of patients from the clinical area.
Housekeeping and Environmental Care
Will ensure the environment is clean, comfortable, safe, and welcoming to patients, relativesand all health care workers
Will be aware of and understand; basic infection control techniques, the disposal of sharpsand universal safety techniques with regard to spillages.
