An opportunity has arisen within the Diagnostics and Infrastructure Division for a Medical Secretary in the Cellular Pathology Department. The post holder will work closely with the Histopathology Medical Secretarial Team, to provide support to the Consultant Histopathologists and Specialty Trainees, whilst maintaining a clerical function within the department. You will also need to build a good working relationships with Laboratory and Mortuary staff.
The role is a busy (fast paced) and varied one, including typing (descriptions of specimens, post mortem reports as well as letters), filing, organising consultant diaries, sending of and dispatching letters, sending material to other hospitals, preparing for Multi-Disciplinary Team Meetings in a timely manner, sending out results and liaising with professionals across and outside the Trust. A high standard of audiotyping is required.
The appointee is expected to be highly motivated, use his/her own initiative, have experience of dealing with the service users and a desire to make an important contribution to the effective delivery of pathology clerical services for the patients’ benefit. Good organisation, resourcefulness, a strong eye for accuracy and detail, excellent administrative and communication skills. are essential.
A working knowledge of general office procedures and Microsoft packages is also expected; however full training will be given in the use of Medisec and EPR+ software. Knowledge of medical terminology also would be desirable.”
