**Job summary**:
Diving has long been recognised as a major accident hazard offshore with diving operations presenting and being exposed to very real risks whilst working from an installation, alongside from a DSV or daughter craft or as a connected activity. Robust regulation of these diving operations is critical to ensure that all offshore personnel, divers and non-divers, return home healthy and safe from work.
- We offer a unique opportunity to influence and improve safety across a wide range of activities, both offshore and onshore, including ageing installations, the significant new build programme and the most high-tech innovations.
- The UK's offshore industry is here for decades to come and so is the need for its regulator. This is your opportunity to be part of its future and to make a difference using your knowledge and skills whilst continuing your development within the unique variety and depth of challenge that Energy Division offers you.**Job description**:
The UK diving industry comprises many diverse and challenging sectors including offshore oil & gas, inland/inshore commercial diving, offshore renewables, recreational, media, Police, military, scientific, archaeological and shellfish diving activities.
- In addition to your work with the offshore oil & gas sector you will be responsible for ensuring regulatory compliance across all areas of professional diving within England and Wales. You will conduct regulatory inspections, investigate serious incidents and concerns and influence stakeholders at all levels of the UK diving industry. The successful regulation of such a broad portfolio of sectors creates a unique set of challenges and rewards for a Specialist Diving Inspector.
- This is an exciting and challenging career which will take you to varied locations, dealing with a wide range of duty holders from individual sole traders to large multi-national corporations, adapting your approach as appropriate. You will be working collaboratively as part of a geographically dispersed, but supportive team of diverse specialists and will gain:
- Confidence to challenge poor performance.
- Experience of working with other regulatory bodies.
- Skills and experience to present to a wide range of organisations and settings; **and**:

- Experience of dealing with the media.

As part of your role, you will be required to travel to sites around the UK with regular periods away from home. Due to the nature of the diving industry, some weekend work and travel may be required. You will be provided with appropriate PPE and training to enable you to undertake the role in a manner to protect your personal health and safety.**Person specification**:
You must be able to:

- Successfully lead meetings, take control of difficult situations and ensure successful outcomes in challenging conditions.
- Accurately communicate with internal and external stakeholders.
- Produce accurate and concise factual written documentation such as reports, and papers in support of HSE processes; and
- Fit into a small team and to work effectively and collaboratively with others.

**Essential Criteria**:

- Knowledge of diving industry associations and the guidance that diving contractors are committed to following when members of those organisations
