The role comprises of 10 Programmed Activities (PA's) per week in total, of which 7.5 are Direct Clinical Care and 2.5 are Supporting Professional Activities. There is a 3 week rolling rota of Consultant duties which allows inpatient duties to be shared equally between the Consultant team.

The department of Cardiology has 2 (soon to be 3) full time Consultants and an Associate Specialist. Each Consultant is supported by a medical secretary. There is a very good complement of 5.5 WTE Cardiology Clinical Nurse Specialists. They support both inpatient and outpatient services in a wide range of cardiology conditions including heart failure, chest pain and arrhythmias. Cardiothoracic surgery support is provided by the Bristol Heart Institute.
- To work with the Consultant team and all Cardiology Department clinical and support staff, and others in the Trust, to deliver a comprehensive urgent inpatient and elective outpatient Cardiology service at Yeovil District Hospital, taking into account the successful applicant's sub-specialty interests and expertise.
- To undertake regular ward rounds of patients under the Cardiology team on the Acute Cardiovascular Care Unit, Cardiology ward, and (exceptionally) when required on other wards and units.
- To organise, manage and support Cardiology diagnostic and treatment services provided by the Cardiology Department at Yeovil District Hospital.
- To undertake regular outpatient clinics.
- To support the Cardiology Department in providing a Rapid Access Chest Pain Clinic service, including (exceptionally) undertaking clinics if required.
- To undertake or supervise regular timetabled bradycardia pacing sessions, and undertake pacing sessions for urgent inpatient cases as required (according to interest and expertise).
- To undertake regular diagnostic coronary angiogram sessions (according to interest and expertise).
- To undertake or supervise regular complex echo (Dobutamine stress echo, transesophageal echo, and other complex echo) sessions (according to interest and expertise).
- To supervise or report cardiac CT sessions (according to interest and expertise).
- To provide, with others, an emergency temporary pacing on call service.
