**Job overview**: The Nuclear Medicine Section comprises approximately 40 individuals working between two sites (Queen’s Medical Centre and Nottingham City Hospital) and operates 4 gamma cameras, 4 bone densitometers, networked HERMES workstations and a radiopharmacy service. The service also manages the Nottingham PET/CT Centre. The Nuclear Medicine clinics perform a comprehensive range of diagnostic imaging and non-imaging investigations (these include nuclear cardiology, oncology, paediatrics, gastroenterology and orthopaedics) and also provide a growing molecular radionuclide therapy service (Iodine-131, Radium-223 and SIRT). The Bone Densitometry Clinic performs a full range of bone densitometry investigations on behalf of various specialties within the Trust and for GPs, and is part of a fracture liaison service for the assessment and treatment of older patients with low trauma fractures. **Main duties of the job**: In addition to the summary below you need to familiarise yourself with the full job description and person specification documents attached to this advert The 3-year apprenticeship combines work-based training in the Nuclear Medicine Section with fully funded block-release study at the University of West of England (UWE) on the B.Sc. (Hons) Healthcare Science Practitioner (Medical Physics Technology). The duties will include supporting the provision of a diagnostic and therapeutic Nuclear Medicine service based at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust. This will include (under supervision) handling radioactive materials, performing QC on medical equipment, manufacturing radiopharmaceuticals, explaining investigations to patients, administering radiopharmaceuticals, performing diagnostic tests on patients using gamma cameras and bone densitometers and analysing images ready for radiologist to report. This will in include administration of radiopharmaceuticals and management of radioactive waste in accordance to local procedures and policies. Communicate information to a range of stakeholders in the service including patients, internal medical staff and external referrers. Use a range of medical equipment to deliver patient care and perform appropriate QA procedures. Policy and Service Development and Implementation Participate in maintaining and improving the clinical and technical quality of the investigations carried out by the Nuclear Medicine Clinic and the quality of radiopharmaceuticals produced by the Radiopharmacy. The post holder will need to keep abreast of the latest clinical and technical developments in own specialist area. Physical and Financial Resources Be responsible for the operation of equipment with individual value in excess of £500,000. Information resources Participate in the maintenance of accurate records relating to patient investigations, the use and disposal of radioactive materials and the preparation of radiopharmaceuticals. Assist with the maintenance of the security and integrity of computer data within the Section. Research and Development Work with other members of the nuclear medicine section to develop the service and new areas of work.
