Monitoring and Evaluation Assistant

The Monitoring and Evaluation Assistant has a key part to play in helping us collect and interpret data about the number and type of people our different programmes reach and the impact they make on the lives of those who engage with them. At The Reader, we deliver a wide range of activities and services, from our Social Enterprises and Heritage offer on site at Calderstones Mansion House to our network of Shared Reading groups and digital activities for adults and children across the UK. As well as allowing us to demonstrate impact, the qualitative and quantitative feedback we gather from our participants helps us review, develop and improve our services, informing strategic decision making and helping us to make the biggest difference to the people who need us most.
Key Responsibilities:
- Analyse, interpret and present a wide variety of data for internal and external project reports and internal learning purposes
- Set up tools (e.g online surveys/paper evaluation forms) to collect data from our volunteers and participants in our activities, which can be delivered in different ways.
- Understanding of the impact of Shared Reading, and the quantitative and qualitative data used by The Reader to measure this.
- Understanding of how our reporting tools support our funders’ requirements
- Support evaluation volunteers (small groups between one and ten) in the collection and input of data
- Provide support to colleagues as needed on the collection of data in evaluation activities
- Act as the first point of contact in providing advice to colleagues and volunteers about best practice in monitoring and evaluation
- Draft written communications to colleagues and volunteers about evaluation work (e.g. requests/instructions to complete evaluation forms)

Essential:
- Shares our ethos and values
- Excellent attention to detail
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Strong logic/reasoning skills - enjoys finding solutions to mathematical problems
- Has the ability to use own initiative, can demonstrate practical common sense, and work independently
- Highly organised, good at prioritising and working to deadlines
- Understand the necessity of handling confidential information, including personal data
- Competent and experienced in Excel and other Microsoft packages
- Willing and eager to learn
Desirable:
- Experience of working in an administrative role previously
- Experience of supporting volunteers or leading a small project
- Experience of the voluntary sector, including of monitoring & evaluation concepts and tools
- Experience of using CRM systems, including running reports
