**Learning Support Assistant(s)**
**Part time: 37 hours per week x 39 weeks (term time)**
**NJC pay scale level 5 £25,992 per annum pro rata**
Main purpose of the job:
To complement the professional work of the tutors by taking responsibility for agreed learning activities under agreed system of supervision.
Providing support and guidance to young people and those engaged with them at removing barriers to learning to promote effective participation, raise aspiration and achieve full potential.
Supporting learners who will have SEN needs or EHCP (Education Health Care Plans
Key Roles & Responsibilities:
Assisting individual learners in the learning environment, whether in the classroom, study area or outside activity as directed by the tutor.
You will be assigned to work with an individual or several identified learners within a class.
You will receive a caseload of learners that will become your responsibility in the learning environment. This may change both during and after term depending on learner circumstance.
As an LSA you are deployed to concentrate on the needs of the learners.
You will be given a checklist of relevant LSA activity you may be required to undertake during learning support situations.
Supporting learners in the learning environment, e.g. breaking down tasks into manageable chunks, assisting with focus and concentration, checking understanding and where required act as a scribe for the learners use.
Liaise with teaching staff on the learner’s progress and complete elements of the college ILP when and where appropriate to do so.
To take part in team meetings where appropriate and provide feedback on learners when requested.
To assist in the identification of early signs of disengagement and contribute to specific interventions to encourage re-engagement.
Work within the established disciplinary policy to anticipate and manage behavior constructively, promoting self-control and independence.
To maintain health and safety by supervising learners in out of class activities including break times and lunch times.
To maintain a record of support provided to the learner.
Invigilate in exam and tests where required.
**College wide responsibilities and behaviours**:
Staff have a responsibility and duty of care to safeguard and promote the welfare of pupils and staff. Staff must be aware of the systems within the College which support safeguarding and must act in accordance with the College’s Safeguarding & Child Protection policy and Code of Conduct. Staff will receive appropriate child protection training which is regularly updated.
Staff are responsible for their own health and safety in the workplace and that of other staff, students and visitors to our sites and must adhere to policies and procedures
Staff are required to consider sustainability of resources and the potential impact on the environment, in the workplace.
Staff wellbeing is promoted in the workplace, creating an environment of positive mental health awareness and caring for others as part of our duty of care.
Staff have a responsibility and duty of care to ensure we promote a culture of inclusion. Staff should be aware of Equal Opportunities good practice and adhere to the Council and College requirements for Diversity; to implement this in all aspects of working practice and promote it in the team and workplace.
This role requires DBS clearance, appropriate to the function.

This role is involved in regulated activity with Children and/or vulnerable adults. This role will require an enhanced clearance from the Disclosure and Barring Service.
Pre-employment checks and training will include safeguarding training and a sound understanding of Keeping Children Safe in Education.
**Term Time Only - Monday - Thursday 8.45am - 4.45pm - Friday 9.00am - 4.30pm**
