Pastoral and Welfare Officer - (2 Year Fixed Term Contract)

Responsible to: Vice Principal and Designated Teacher

Hours: Full Time - 37.5 hours per week

Contract: 2 Years Fixed Term

Pay Scale: £25,927 - £30,095 (NJC Scale Band 4)

**JOB DESCRIPTION**

1.0 RELATED SERVICES
1.1 Assist in the completion of UNOCINIs if required
1.2 Attend case conferences and LAC reviews on behalf of and with students
1.3 Undertake home visits as and when required
1.4 Mobilise family, school, and community-based resources to enable the child to learn as effectively as possible in his or her educational program
1.5 Assist in developing early intervention strategies to address pupil needs including mental health, emotional literacy, self-discipline and negative peer and community influences

1.6 Ensuring up to date records of students and family engagement
1.7 Utilise a variety of sources of evidence to demonstrate impact in the role on a termly basis via a termly review report - students/ parental/ external feedback, student voice, attendance statistics, case conference attendance statistics, behavioural record and any other source of evidence that will demonstrate impact

1.8 Work closely with the Safeguarding team and meeting on weekly basis

2.0 SERVICES TO STUDENTS
2.1 Develop intervention strategies that demonstrate a Solihull Approach in order to support academic success.
2.2 Provide crisis intervention strategies in keeping with a Solihull Approach ethos.
2.3 Use restorative approaches to address and reduce conflict and/or wrongdoing
2.4 Assist the student to develop self-regulation, emotional literacy, and positive social interaction skills
2.5 Act as advocate and support students in case conferences
2.6 Have appropriate programmes and support in place for targeted students

3.0 SERVICES TO PARENT/FAMILIES
3.1 Develop positive working relationships with parents/carers to support student’s school progress
3.2 Provide support to families that are struggling to access school and community resources

4.0 SERVICES TO SCHOOL PERSONNEL
4.1 Provide staff with essential information to better understand factors (cultural, societal, economic, familial, health, etc.) affecting a student’s performance and behaviour.

4.2 Undertake assessments on pupils who may have mental health issues
4.3 Develop staff in-service training programs on factors that impinge on students’ progress at school e.g., trauma, neglect, domestic abuse
4.4 Work with teachers to strengthen and restore relationships when issues arise
4.5 Provide direct support to staff when required

5.0 SCHOOL-COMMUNITY LIAISON
5.1 Help school maintain positive working relationships with external agencies
5.2 Identify and build an inventory of local community resources and external support service
5.3 Make referrals to appropriate statutory, voluntary and community organisations when student and/or family support is required
5.4 Advocate for new and improved community/school service to meet the needs of students and families.
5.5 Help the school community system respond effectively to each students’ needs.
5.6 Identify, report, and process any safeguarding issues
5.7 Provide case management for students and families requiring multiple resources.

- Hold a recognised and related professional qualification
