The Prosthetics Service is provided by a supportive and friendly team consisting of Physiotherapists, Physiotherapist TI, nurse, occupational therapist, Clinical Prosthetics Team Lead, 3 Prosthetists (recruiting 2 additional) and a rehabilitation doctor (currently vacant), we are recruiting a Psychologist also: we have an on-site workshop and technical team. The Prosthetics service has a varied patient case-load including paediatrics, adults, upper and lower limb of all levels, congenital and acquired. The hospital is located with good communication routes to the rest of North Wales and across the border into Cheshire and Shropshire.
We are looking to expand the Prosthetist team. We have support links with the two other ALAC Prosthetic Services based in South and link with MDT clinics across vascular services and other NHS Trusts such as Alder Hey and RJAH. We are keen to recruit an enthusiastic Prosthetist with varied and appropriate clinical experience at this time of change as we grow our committed team.
The Prosthetists’ role is to assess, prescribe and treat amputees and those with limb absence through the provision of a custom made medical devices to meet the complex prosthetic needs of severely disabled clients, using a wide variety of materials and manufacturing processes including IT systems. The role includes designing, creating working drawings for the technical team and understanding of materials specification and performance to allow appropriate prescribing.
The Prosthetist will make arrangements for timely and ongoing maintenance, fault
- finding and repair of these highly specialised devices.
The Prosthetist will be involved in and participate in multidisciplinary clinics with fellow team members and those from referring services both in BCUHB and further afield. The Prosthetist will share clinical experience and decision making with those from MDT services.
The post holder will be involved in provision and treatment for upper limb and lower limb sourcing necessary support for the very complex cases from Providers and their clinical specialists. Veteran treatment will be undertaken which deals with complex presentation, often multiple limb loss, use and provision of specialist equipment and liaison with the MOD support. Myoelectric upper limb and Microprocessor provision will be overseen by the Prosthetist.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
