**Trainee in Primary Care Administration & Engagement**
Objective:
Working within a team to provide care and support to the patients of a busy General Practice whilst engaging in training and self-development. You will contribute to the daily duties and administration of the business, delivering high quality services for all the practice population.
**Working life**:
You will be part of a busy team responsible for the administration activities related to the care and coordination of patients at the practice.
- Greet patients and deal with enquiries and appointments
- Update patient records and input clinical data
- Scan and code incoming letters and documents
- Answering and making phone calls
- Entering patient information
- Supporting the clinical team with blood forms, medicine requests, referrals
- Dealing effectively with all enquires
- Monitoring and assisting clinicians in achieving health targets
You will also work with the doctors and nursing team, giving support with clinics.
- Taking blood pressures
- Running health check clinics
- Sample testing of urines and sending for microbiology
- Flu vaccination clinics

**Personal/Professional development**:
All training will be provided. No previous experience within a Primary Care or administration setting is required. You will follow a programme of training including:
- On-line courses to develop knowledge of the EMIS software system used in the practice
- Courses on Medical Terminology and Read Coding
- Modules on customer care and handling telephone enquiries
- Training on handling difficult situations and complaints
In addition to this, on-going training and development will be provided and you will commit to:
- Participation in an annual performance review (appraisal), including taking responsibility for maintaining a record of own development activity
- Taking responsibility for own development and learning by following through objectives set at appraisal
- Ensure attendance at identified training events and monthly staff meetings
- Attend induction training, mandatory training and mandatory updates as required
- Attendance at practice healthcare meetings as required

**Confidentiality**:
In the course of your employment, you will have access to confidential information relating to individuals and the organisations business. You are required to exercise due consideration in the way you use such information and should not act in any way which might be prejudicial to a patient, staff member or the organisations interests.
Information which requires extra consideration covers both access to the general business of the organisation and information regarding to individuals. If you are in any doubt regarding the use of such information in the pursuit of your duties you should seek advice from your manager before communicating information to any third party.
**Data protection**:
You must not at any time use the personal data held by the organisation for a purpose outside the practice environment or disclose such data to a third party. If you are in any doubt regarding what you should or should not do in connection with the Data Protection Act then you must contact your line manager or appropriate senior lead at the time.
**Health & Safety**:
Employees must be aware of the responsibility placed on them under the Health & Safety at Work Act (1974) to maintain a healthy and safe working environment
