**About the Role**
As part of our Take Part offer, Aberdeen Performing Arts delivers a year-round programme of creative workshops for children and young people aged 4 - 18.
We are seeking an experienced freelance youth music facilitator to join our Beats and Rhymes team and support the delivery of our participatory music-making programme for young people in S1S6. Through rap and music production, the workshops provide young people with a powerful outlet for self-expression and creativity.
To complement the existing skills within the Beats and Rhymes delivery team, we are seeking an individual with strong expertise in lyric writing.
Participants in our Beats and Rhymes sessions are encouraged to write lyrics in their own words, often incorporating Doric as a local language, to accompany the music they create together as a group.
This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about using music to help young people build confidence, creativity and teamworking skills.
The Beats and Rhymes facilitator will work as part of a multi-skilled team responsible for the planning and delivery of one workshop per week.
Beats and Rhymes workshops take place on Thursday evenings from 6.30pm 8pm during school term time in Tutti Studio at the Music Hall. Facilitators work as part of team to deliver workshops throughout the term and share delivery time to ensure there are always two facilitators present at any one workshop. Facilitators can expect to deliver approximately five sessions per term, as agreed with other team members.
In addition, facilitators will work with participants to create a piece of work to be shared as part of Light the Blue youth arts festival. This will be guided by the participants and has previously been in the form of an exhibition of lyrics, with music created by the young people accompanying the lyrics and accessed via QR code.
**Key Responsibilities**
Beats and Rhymes Workshop Facilitators are responsible for the design and delivery of an engaging series of music making workshops.
This role is specifically for a practitioner with skills in lyric writing to complement the skills of other team members.- **Work with young participants to support lyric writing** and engagement with music making**.**- **Foster a positive work environment, serving as a role model for young people through professional and supportive behavio**u**r.**- **Encourage participants to express their lived experiences through lyric writing, while promoting respectful content**.**- **Plan and d**eliver a** high standard of**project and participant experience**.**- **Encourage the generation of ideas and work which can be shared at Light the Blue.**- **Assist** in**end of term evaluation**.**- **Liaise with the Producer for Participation and keep them informed of workshop pla**ns.**
