Nottinghamshire Child & Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS), Bassetlaw Specialist Neurodevelopmental Assessment Services (ASD & ADHD)

As a result of service transformation we have secured additional permanent funding for Clinical Psychology provision within our Bassetlaw multidisciplinary assessment service. Post holders will join a highly specialist team consisting of a specialist Consultant Paediatrician, Clinical Psychologist, Speech and Language Therapist and an Assistant Psychologist.

The MDT service provides specialist assessment services to children and young people up to 19 years, and their families who present with neurodevelopmental concerns.

The post holder will also join an integrated, friendly and supportive group of 15 Clinical Psychologists working across the Nottingham City and conurbation multi-disciplinary CAMHs; including Children Looked After services. There are good opportunities for CPD, strong mechanisms for support and good links with the DClinpsy courses at Trent, Sheffield and Leicester University.

The post holder is required to hold a post graduate doctorate in clinical psychology as accredited by the BPS and have Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) registration.

In addition to delivering highly specialist neurodevelopmental assessment there will be a particular emphasis on clinical psychology supporting alternative formulation where indicated from assessments findings. Knowledge of attachment theory and trauma presentations alongside diagnostic assessment skills will be important. There will be opportunity for further development and training of specialist assessment skills.

The post also offers a broad range of experience including consultation, training and supporting clinical networks serving this care group across the Bassetlaw area. There will be a particular emphasis on supporting the young person’s support network in understanding the results and recommendations of the specialist assessment panel post assessment.

1. To provide clinical psychology expertise to the ADHD & ASD diagnostic assessments as part of a specialist MDT consultation panel. Diagnostic assessment will be based on the interpretation and integration of highly complex data from a variety of sources including psychological tests, self-report measures, rating scales, education & health reports, direct and indirect structured observations and semi-structured interviews gathered in stages 1 & 2 of the ADHD & ASD Pathway.
2. For highly complex presentations requiring more extensive assessment, to undertake direct psychological assessment of clients using specialist psychometric and diagnostic tools.
3. To formulate and recommend plans for the management and treatment of children including support to education and care plans provided at a multi-agency level.
4. To evaluate and make decisions about treatment options, taking into account current theoretical and therapeutic models and also highly complex factors concerning developmental difficulties, chronic illness, and historical processes that have affected the young person, family or care system.
5. To exercise autonomous professional responsibility for the assessment and discharge of clients.
6. To provide specialist psychological advice and consultation to other professionals contributing directly to client’s formulation, diagnosis and treatment plan.
7. To direct children and young people with additional complex mental health needs who require further treatment to the appropriate specialist services.
