To assist the cook in the preparation of a balanced, nutritious diet within a controlled hygienic environment and support the cook in the effective operation of the kitchen.

The Kitchen Assistant will also need to control stock, rotate foods and keep an eye on use by dates and ensure that the kitchen is left in a clean and hygienic state at the end of every shift.

**Duties & Responsibilities**
- To prepare foods requested by the cook.
- To clear tables after meals and to wash up all crockery using the dishwasher appropriately.
- To return all crockery, glassware, cutlery and utensils to cupboards and drawers.
- To lay trolley for morning and afternoon teas.
- To set tables for dinner ensuring tables, mats, cruets etc are all clean, and cruets topped up as necessary.
- To keep the beverage area clean and tidy and ensure tea, coffee, sugar containers etc are topped up as necessary. Ensure beverage fridge is stocked with adequate milk and juices and that the biscuit box is topped up with an assortment of biscuits. To also check that cereal containers are kept clean and topped up.
- To keep all kitchen cupboards, drawers, shelves, sinks and work surfaces clean daily using a rota in relation to the cupboards and drawers.
- To periodically clean blinds and wall tiles and keep a record of this.
- Ensure that any opened foods are clearly labelled with the opening date, stored correctly and used before the use by or, best by date.
- The menu for each day must be displayed on the boards provided for residents and staff reference.
- Report straight away any faulty equipment in the kitchen to the Manager and ensure the equipment displays out of use if this is the case.
- To wear uniform provided and to ensure it is clean every day.
- To have hair if long tied back and to wear a hat and uniform provided when at work and to keep footwear for kitchen use only. Jewellery to be kept to wedding ring and stud ear-rings only. Fingernails to be kept short and clean.
- Kitchen hygiene to be maintained at all times.

**Skills/Experience/Qualifications**:

- Knowledge and understanding of the issues involved in catering for older people, special dietary needs etc
- Quality approach to food services delivery
- A good understanding of different cultural and ethnic traditions with regard to catering
- An interest in nutrition for older people with a range of conditions including dementia
- Excellent interpersonal skills and communication
- Keen to learn and improve own performance
- Committed to communicate with residents to understand their needs
- Enjoys working effectively as part of a team

Pay: £11.44 per hour

Schedule:

- 10 hour shift
