**A great opportunity has become available for a Mechanical Design Engineer to work in the Acoustic Engineering department in a small team with a great working atmosphere, our client is looking to hire for this position immediately.**
**Mechanical Design Engineer**
**Job Description**:

- Produce 3D models from scratch, having a willingness to innovate and a thorough eye for detail ensuring the solution fully answers the design specification and meets all budget/time/safety/quality requirements.
- Produce and interrogate models using the 3D software capabilities (FEA/CFD etc), and to coordinate internal and third party design inputs/outputs during detailed design stages.
- Ensure structural design is properly considered, carrying out basic structural calculations where required to get the design started, and subsequently liaising with structural engineers to verify the design.
- Produce accurate GA’s and all associated technical details as required for fabrication and construction, including GA’s, assembly drawings, fabrication details, schedules/BOM lists etc, output data files for CNC/NC profiling, and other documents as required.
- Review specification documents issued and to ensure design details produced are compliant with the agreed specification and raise all foreseeable exceptions at early stage for review.
- Advise programme for completion of tasks issued and manage own time effectively to consistently meet agreed deadlines. Ensure approval processes are followed and progress through required stages in time.
- Raise/answer RFI’s in a timely manner, pursue to close out outstanding items, and maintain RFI registers as required.
- Ensure design information produced is checked for accuracy and completeness prior to issue, and is issued in the correct format, including uploading onto company and client systems as required.
- Own the document control function for all design documentation associated with assigned projects. Ensure drawing transmittals are completed and revision changes are logged and controlled as per QMS process.
- Assist with site surveys as required, and attend technical meetings as required.
- Collate and maintain supplier product information for O&M manuals and quality control purposes and produce as-built information for assigned projects.
- On rare occasions, from time to time this may include a requirement to overnight away from home to enable attendance at customer sites etc (expensed).
- Assist in the development of the products to value engineer and improve quality and efficiency of construction.

**Mechanical Design Engineer**
**Essential Skills/Experience/Qualifications**:

- Experience modelling and detailing steel structures and/or large sheet metal components in 3D using Solidworks.
- 2 years+ experience with SOLIDWORKS & FEA
- A highly competent user of Solidworks, with the ability to use and interpret its FEA functions.
- Good practical problem solving and having a practical approach capable of designing efficient solutions from blank page to completion - both independently and collaborating as part of a team.
- Highly organised and motivated individual with good understanding of how a drawing should be presented and what needs to be included on it to provide all the key information needed by others.
- A team player who will go the extra mile, being flexible to the needs of the business, wants to develop with the team, and genuinely wants to be a key part of the long-term future of the business.

**Mechanical Design Engineer**
**Desirable Skills/Experience/Qualifications but Not Essential**:

- Experience in design for steel structural and cladding, and light gauge steel sheet materials.
- Certified Solidworks User - (CSWA or CWSP)
- AutoCAD or Draftsight 2D experience
- Good understanding of structural steel design calculations, design parameters, and efficient design
- Hands on practical site/workshop experience in construction and/or steel fabrication.
- Good understanding of how design impacts cost, and ability to identify and deliver cost efficiencies.
