**C++ Systems Developer (Fully remote from within the UK)
£35k - £45k + benefits**

**THE COMPANY**:
One of the UK's oldest and most prestigious Universities that is rated in the top 100 in the world.
Their Computing and Information Services Department is comprised of over 140 employees who handle numerous multi-million-pound programmes of change throughout the year, spanning Strategy and Change; Operations; and Information Systems.
THE ROLE:
In partnership with the Office for National Statistics, the University has created a web service that provides free access to official UK labour market statistics and census results which is widely by central and local government, academics and the commercialsector.

The system is currently undergoing a re-development project and to support this, enhancements and changes are required to back-end software. This will involve assisting in the implementation of a new version of the systems API, re-development of databases thatstore lookups, metadata and code lists for the back-end databases and assisting in a move towards a micro services architecture.

**Duties**:

- Provide management for the delivery of high-quality software development.
- Develop and maintain the C++ programs used to load and disseminate statistical datasets via the systems API and customer-facing website.
- Create and modify routines to process confidential raw data for new and existing datasets and load it into the database.
- Update and maintain lookups and code lists in the main geographic and classification databases using existing tools.
- Implement, modify and perform quality control checks and procedures on data.
- Create and perform testing procedures to identify and resolve issues with code prior to the release of updates to the production system.

**Essential Skills**:

- Educated to degree level in computer sciences (or equivalent experience/professional qualification)
- Knowledge and expertise in developing software using object-oriented programming
- Knowledge of and commitment to software development best practise including issue tracking, unit testing, documentation, and version control
- Ability to solve problems and resolve issues, plan solutions, and make pragmatic decisions.

**Desirable Skills**:

- Experience in processing and manipulating complex numerical data
- Experience working with sensitive data and ensuring its security
- Knowledge of and proven ability to work with JSON and XML data structures
- Experience of working with relational databases and SQL programming
- Specialist knowledge of Unix/Linux OS including shell scripting
