To support children and young people with special needs and learning disabilities including developmental delay, autism and other complex conditions, to live independently and have fulfilling experiences in the home and community life.

To ensure that PCC’s aims, and objectives are adhered to by a commitment to achieve the outcomes for children and young people in accordance with the Guide to the Quality Standards April 2015, Children Homes (England) Regulations 2015 and following the guidance of The Social Care Common Inspection Framework (SCCIF) 2018.

**Key Responsibilities**
- Provide care to children & young person whilst at the same time encouraging and promoting their independence.
- To carry out recreational activities both inside/outside the home, including sporting activities, day trips and any activities sighted as being suitable.
- To act as key worker to child/young person.
- Communicate appropriately with child/young people, taking into account their individual communication needs.
- To accurately record all child/young person’s ongoing information which will provides a true reflection of the child/young person’s time at the home.
- Using electronic database to log information regarding child &young person

Responsibility towards management and department personnel
- The child practitioner must collaborate effectively with other team members to ensure the PCC mission is being achieved through the services department aims and objectives.
- To keep abreast with current legislation that may have an impact on their duties and responsibilities.
- To undertake any training as deemed necessary by PCC.
- To participate in and contribute to professional supervision, and appraisal processes on a regular basis.
- To pro-actively seek relevant courses to enhance personal and professional development within the role.

Responsibility towards PCC, Staff and partnership agencies
- Staff are expected to provide support for each other, to cover for each other’s areas of work during absences, to share information and to contribute generally to the smooth running of the home.
- Staff may also be required to undertake other duties within their capabilities; this will include but is not limited to light domestic duties where the need arises.
- To work as part of a team in the co-ordination and participation of all activities involved in supporting the young people and the home.
- Staff must maintain a professional relationship in partnership with parents/career, colleagues, childcare professionals and stakeholders.

**Person Specification**

**_Essential _**
- Need a minimum of 6 months experience working with children & young people with additional needs
- NVQ/Level 2/3 Health and Social Care in Children and Young People or equivalent qualification/willing to work toward either.
- Flexible working including evening, weekends, Bank Holidays and night shifts
- Ability to form and maintain appropriate relationships and personal boundaries with children and young people.
- Have a good understanding of safeguarding, safe caring and promoting the welfare of the children and young people.
- Display an awareness of the need for punctuality, reliability and flexibility with regard to your working schedule.
- Ability to adhere to the organisation’s policy and procedures in relation to caring for vulnerable children and young people.
- Emotional resilience in working with children and young people.
- Ability to use own initiative and exercise sound judgment.
- Ability to deal with sensitive and confidential information.
- Work as part of a team.
- Planning & coordinating activities in conjunction with others
- The ability to respond flexible to the changing needs of the children & young people being supported.
- To have a good understanding of Equality & Diversity.

**_Desirable _**
- Good written communication skills
- Basic IT skills
- Have a good understanding of how to use a computer, with an ability to learn new data systems and programs.
- Knowledge of current childcare legislation and legislation relating to disabilities
- A good understanding of how life can impact on emotional wellbeing of children and young people
- Creative approach to problem solving
- Skilled in recognising and responding to children’s needs

**Salary**: £22,000.00-£27,000.00 per year
