**Big C, Norfolk and Waveneys Cancer Charity, is proud to be involved in the Kickstart Scheme and is offering a 6 month placement to a young person within our retail team.**
There are an estimated 2.5 million people living with cancer in the UK. Roughly 400,000 people are told the news that they have cancer each year, and over 8,500 per year in Norfolk and Waveney alone. Since 1980 Big C has been dedicated to the fight against cancer and today, we help thousands of people affected by cancer across our county, while working with key partners in research and healthcare to improve future outcomes.
Big Cs work focuses on four key areas supporting people affected by cancer, funding world-class local research into cancer, providing vital medical equipment and facilities in the countys main acute hospital Trusts, providing interventional and presentational education programmes for the general public and healthcare professionals.

The working hours are 25 per week, Monday to Friday, generally 9am to 3pm with an hour for lunch. There maybe some flexibility with working hours to meet individual and operational needs. The starting salary will be national minimum wage according to age.
The **Kickstart Shop Assistant, **is designed to be varied, working with and supporting the retail management teams at our Allenbrooks Way, Wymondham premises in the day to day running of our Furniture Boutique and Craft Shop, online retail outlet and distribution centre all to help Big C maximise sales and profit from donated stock.
Main duties include sorting through donated stock, preparing it for sale, processing sales transactions through the till efficiently, stock replenishment and rotation and assisting customers enquiries. Additionally the post holder will support the day-to-day operation of Big Cs new digital retail and eBay operations; helping to manage stock, sales, enquires, distribution and all associated administration.
The Shop Assistant will work closely with our Big C staff and valued volunteers and should be a good team member as well as being able to work well individually if required. They should be enthusiastic in their approach to work and a professional approach when dealing with customers and colleagues.

Essential Skills, Experience and Knowledge*

- Good IT skills including photo editing and Microsoft Office Word and Excel.

**Employability Support**
You will be working as part of a small team committed to raising funds for Big Cs cause. Our staff and volunteers all have their unique skills and experience which you will be able to learn from. The Shop Manager and Assistant Shop Manager will lead by example in terms of setting and upholding standards relating to timekeeping and attendance.
Employability support will be provided as e-learning through Norwich City College and you will be given time to complete this during your working hours.
In addition to mandatory e-learning, we have a flexible but structured plan for training new staff which is mainly be on-the-job. If there are issues or if you have any specific training needs relative to your role, we will put a development plan in place to support this. You will be given every opportunity to develop your retail knowledge, customer service and communication skills so that you are able to express interest in any suitable internal vacancies that arise or that add value to your CV for external opportunities.
