**Job Summary**
To provide a smooth, efficient service to the patients and customers using the Mattishall Pharmacy and to assist counter assistants with the handing out of all relevant prescriptions as authorised by the practice doctor(s) and prescribing nurses where appropriate in accordance with the principles of good practice. Acting as focal point for patient enquiries, liaising with multidisciplinary team members and external agencies such as secondary care and community service providers. Adhering to extant policy and procedure.

**Primary Responsibilities**
The following are the core responsibilities of the Medicines Counter Role There may be on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks; this will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels:
Medicine counter duties will be allocated as part of the Pharmacy Rota during the operating hours of 08:00- 20:00hrs Monday - Friday.
**Medicine Counter duties**
- Provide excellent customer service, be polite and courteous to customers
- Offer informed advice on appropriate treatment of minor ailments and products
- Use the cash register to serve customers
- Provide and support the team in delivering pharmacy services
- To collect all due prescription charges and ensure that the patient declaration on the reverse of the FP10 is duly filled in and signed by the patient.
- To check in stock and credit notes against appropriate invoices, ensuring expiry dates, quantities, strengths, form, and account numbers are correct. The invoices must be signed by the person checking them off and filed in the correct file according to SOPS.
- To promptly forward all invoices and dispensary related correspondence to the Finance or dispensary manager according to practice policy.
- To operate efficient stock control appropriate to the needs of the practice with the objective of ensuring continuity of supply for patients and minimising wastage through out-of-date stock.
- To ensure that drugs are stored in an appropriate manner in accordance with the accompanying instructions.
- To ensure that all shelves and all work surfaces are regularly cleaned to maintain a high level of hygiene within the dispensary and that all dispensary equipment is kept clean and in good working order.
- To take prompt action in response to any drug alert bulletins that may be received from time to time.
- To ensure that refrigerated items are stored at the appropriate temperature and to maintain a temperature control record/logbook.
- Follow the company SOPs and protocols
- To undertake any necessary work as may be required and appropriate to maintain a high standard and efficient dispensing service.
- Any other delegated duties appropriate to the post.
