London, United Kingdom East London NHS Foundation Trust Full time

Community Children’s Nursing Service (CCNS) - Caring for children with health care needs in the community.

Special School Nursing (SSN) Nursing Associate - term time only.

Fixed term role to cover maternity - with possible extension to permanent role after 12months

You need to be a registered nursing associate - ideally with paediatric and SEND experience, holding current NMC registration to be considered for this post.

We have recently launched our newly developed special school nursing team, which sits within the umbrella of CCNS in Newham, London. There is strong nurse leadership within CCNS, with senior nursing team leads, clinical nurse specialists, practice development facilitator and overseen by Children’s Community matron. Whilst this role is working as part of a team, there is a level of autonomy required due to lone working and clinical decision making that may be required when visiting CYP either in the education settings or home settings. You will be covering our current NA role whilst she is on maternity leave.

The special school nursing team will be supporting children and young people (CYP) with complex health needs to attend education settings alongside their peers. Newham has an inclusive school policy so many of our CYP with complex needs and profound multiple learning disabilities (PMLD) attend mainstream schools with resource provision, in addition to our special school within the borough.

The team consists of nurses, nursing associate and admin to ensure good case management of holistic needs across a cohort of schools. The nursing associate role will be working alongside Junior sisters, to allocated schools, providing support and teaching of CYP with complex health needs. The post holder will need to have experience in specific clinical skills (enteral feeding, oxygen and airway secretion management) and experience working with CYP who have special education needs and disabilities (SEND). Being confident to work alongside staff (registered and nonregistered) delivering clinical skills, plus provide ongoing trouble shooting and support within the schools is also an essential part of this role. Good communication skills and effective team working are a must alongside a flexible and forward thinking attitude.

We provide access to flexible working, laptops, smart phones and business permits to support working within the community.

We are looking for a nursing associate with a strong commitment to work in partnership with children, young people and their families in order to provide evidence based, holistic health care and make a positive difference to their lives.
