And since 1870 we’ve been making malted Barley for brewers and distillers all over the world from our home maltings in Norfolk. Today, we continue that in 4 countries, across 7 Maltings with specific emphasis on supplying distilleries and craft breweries.
We have an exciting opportunity at our Alloa Crisp Malt site for a Production Operator to join our team.
Reporting to the Production Manager; This role will be responsible for the safe and efficient manufacturing of our quality mated ingredients. Working as part of a small team you will be responsible for the transfer of grain between the different stages of production, from Steeping and Germination to Kilning. You will work across all areas of the plant including Traditional Floor malting, Saladin Boxes and Pneumatic plants. The role will require that you learn all aspects of the malting plants.
This is a 40 hour per week role ,on a rotating 8-hour shift pattern. Shift patterns are altered during Harvest months and additional working hours included within salary.
Key responsibilities:
**Operations**
- Ensure that plant and equipment is always operated safely & correctly to deliver operational efficiencies.
- Batch process cards are followed to ensure correct recipe settings are actioned.
- Batch process cards are completed as required, clearly and legible.
- Support other areas of the business if requested to meet operational needs.
- Identify and propose ideas for improvements to processes and plant equipment
- As required actively be involved in any trials or installation testing of new plant/equipment or process trials.
**Engineering**
- Report defects effectively utilising the CMMS.
- Support engineering activities as required to ensure timely manner of repair to minimise production downtime.
- Carry out any routine inspections of plant or equipment as requested.
- Identify and propose ideas for improvements to plant or equipment
**Quality**
- Carry out daily sample collection and inspection of grain samples - visual and moisture.
- Accurately document sample result data onto batch process cards.
- Maintain product quality to required standards.
- Accurately document any process changes onto batch process cards.
- As required be actively involved in any quality investigation processes.
- Identify and propose ideas for improvements to product quality.
**Training**
- Production Operatives will be trained to be multi skilled across all of the 3 production plants.
- All operators to undertake FMC after completion of probationary period. Fundamentals in Malting Certificate.
- Actively take part in generating a personal development plan with line manager.
**Hygiene & Housekeeping**
- Maintaining high standards of general hygiene and housekeeping across site and aiding production departments as required.
**Health, Safety and Environmental**
- Engage fully in all relevant Health, Safety and Environmental training to assist the Company to meet its legal obligations. Adhering to Manual Handling responsibilities, wearing of required PPE, attendance to required H&S training and assisting management in ensuring all relevant H&S corrective actions are dealt with in timeframes set.
**Experience**:
**Essential**:
- Ability to work cooperatively with others and without supervision.
- Able to work within a fast past environment to ensure process timings and quality requirements consistently met
- Have a flexible approach to working hours
- Strong communication skills to develop working relationships
**Desirable**:
- FLT licence preferred but not essential, training will be provided
- IOSH working safety.
- Production and/or warehouse experience
- Previous experience of using SCADA systems
- Experience working shifts within a production role is preferred but not essential

**Salary**: Up to £36,000.00 per month
