**Could you help refugee families with simple conversational English?**

We are seeking **English** speaking volunteers to assist families resettling into the UK.

Outline of volunteer tasks:

- We are looking for volunteers who would be able to spare an hour or so at a time to speak English in a home environment reinforcing the English terms for everyday items, greetings, requests etc., and to assist with localisation and understanding where to access some local amenities.
- Informal conversation to enable the improvement of simple and general English conversation.

Any help and simple guidance on how to achieve everyday things that we take for granted such as:

- Catching a bus / train; including obtaining tickets prior to or at commencing journey and things like the expectation to follow govt. Covid rules;
- Attending and using Medical Centres, Appointments, Reception and waiting room protocols;
- Providing details of Name and Address including city/town/postcode etc.;
- Contacting emergency services and providing the information that is likely to be requested;
- Contacting the local authority through the phone and online;
- How to ask for things in the local shops;
- Giving help with understanding written communications such as bill, appointments, requests for information.

The families will be new to the country and are unlikely to know where to go for everyday activities. They will need some help with finding their bearings and where to find places such as shops, pharmacies, hairdressers, dentists, Council offices, places of worship, police, CAB, schools, bus stops, train stations, parks and recreation areas.

**Volunteer profile**:

- Experience not essential
- Cultural Awareness
- Excellent Communications skills
- Ability to respect confidentiality
- Access to own transport helpful but not essential

**Job Types**: Part-time, Volunteer
Part-time hours: 1-2 per week

**Salary**: £1.00 per year

**Benefits**:
