**Department overview**:
The Pathology Services team are responsible for carrying out foetal morphology examinations and the general necropsy of animals, recording macroscopic abnormalities and collecting tissues for subsequent microscopic examination to determine whether the test item has had any effect on the tissues.

**Role description**:
To provide a full supporting role to their Section Manager. This is a supervisory role that involves the direct supervision of staff on a daily basis. Additional tasks will involve supporting the department training program, developing staff and addressing performance issues. You will perform routine necropsy and/or foetal morphology procedures and associated tasks in Pathology Services.

You will work as part of a team and be able to support out-of-hours working including the weekend on-call system. You should be able to demonstrate flexibility and competence in all areas, e.g. general toxicology post mortem examination and foetal pathology examinations. Additional tasks will include facility upkeep ensuring that all animal and laboratory areas are maintained to a high standard.

Your main responsibilities will be:
To ensure that procedures are conducted in compliance with regulatory, departmental and company Standard Operating Procedures.

To ensure that the Line Manager is informed immediately of any problems or of any untoward findings that occur during necropsy or any other procedures.

To be vigilant around the department for any matters requiring attention, with particular regard to customer and regulatory perceptions.

Planning resource utilisation and setting work rotas within the department, having due regard to work commitments in all areas, ensuring that all daily tasks can be completed within acceptable time constraints and customer delivery dates.

Maintaining an overview of study schedules and team resource planning to ensure sufficient equipment and staff are available to deliver work to agreed deadlines.

To assist the Section Manager and/or Supervisor in developing and motivating staff and maintaining morale.

To have line management responsibility for designated technologists, ensuring 1:1’s are performed on a regular basis and that staff have development plan.

To assist the Section Manager and/or Supervisor with the scheduling of studies within their department and ensuring that allocated studies are carried out to the highest possible quality standards.
