**Statement**:
At the Barnehage you will work as part of a team to create a stimulating, safe and fun learning and care environment for children. You will demonstrate a friendly, approachable manner that helps you communicate well with children, their parents, and colleagues. Hold or working towards a level 4 qualification within Early years and demonstrate your knowledge in everyday practice.

As a Senior Practitioner your roles and responsibilities are:

- To ensure that yours and other practitioners’ behavior and practices as Early Years Practitioners reflects the legal requirements of the Codes of Practice set out by the Scottish Social Services Council.
- To respect the confidentiality of all information received, including about our children, our working practices, our parents and colleagues. All elements of nursery life must remain in the nursery.
- To lead where appropriate and share knowledge and practical experience with all colleagues. Particularly with understanding and implementing the nursery policies and procedures, the curriculums, training courses and best practice etc. To participate in continuous professional development opportunities, lead team planning meetings and take part in staff meetings.
- To safely escort the children in your care to and from The garden.
- To plan an interesting, stimulating, fun and educational program of activities with an understanding of age and stage appropriate activities.
- To provide a high standard of observations, record keeping and understanding of your key children’s development and learning journeys, and non-key children, particularly when their key worker is not present.
- To contribute to and monitor the ongoing compilation of children’s’ profiles
- To develop personal and professional skills where possible and adapt to the daily running of the nursery.
- To be flexible within working practices of the nursery and out of school care, be prepared to help where needed
- Maintain ratios and ensure that children are supervised correctly at all times.
- To fully engage with and support good team working
- To work alongside the Management Team and colleagues to ensure that the nursery and out of school care philosophy and standards are fulfilled
- To look upon the nursery and out of school care as a ‘whole’ and decide where your help can be most utilised, not just with your key children, so that you are constantly aware of the individual needs of all children and colleagues, in order to improve their and your experience
- To initiate and contribute to children’s play opportunities and experiences, both indoors and outdoors, in a safe and caring manner.
- To initiate and contribute to a well balanced and appropriate programme of experiences in response to children’s interests and stages of development
- To ensure that the guidelines set down by the establishment in hygiene, food preparation, nappy changing and toileting procedures are being followed
- Always appreciate and respect the children’s work, displaying it in an appropriate manner that is presentable and attractive to the children, parents and visitors
- To safeguard the children against harm at all times and report immediately any child protection issues and use the correct procedures if suspicion should arise.
- Ensure that all areas in the playroom/garden/cloakroom are kept clean and tidy, removing any risks and maintain high levels of hygiene
- To initiate and contribute to health and safety, keep risk assessments up to date and report any damage that may cause harm to you, a child or colleague.
- To develop and maintain strong **professional** partnerships with parents, being communicative, kind and friendly, being positive and encouraging towards them and their children. To share daily information about their children and colleagues so that we have an inclusive and enabling environment
- To ensure high standards of safety, hygiene and cleanliness are maintained at all times
- To keep all daily documentation up to date and file it/hand it to the relevant person for filing
- To encourage the children to be part of food preparation and snacks. Encourage a warm and social atmosphere at meal times, considering the needs of all children.
- To work as part of a team to prepare and serve food to the children, following guidelines in food hygiene.
- To attend out of working hours activities, e.g training, staff meetings, parents evenings and events etc
- To be aware of and uphold the reputation of the nursery and out of school care and its standards at all times, both within working hours and outside
- To take holidays during term time due to the nature of the service provided.
