**Overall purpose of the job**:
Access Employment Limited, (AEL) is a limited company with charitable status providing training and support to enable people with disadvantage, particularly those with learning disability to fulfil their potential.

AEL is delighted to have secured funding from the NLCF’s Empowering Young People Programme to further develop and deliver our Transitions Programme. The aim of this programme is to provide young people aged 16 - 25, who have additional needs, with a structured and organised route from educational (children’s) services into adult services and where possible the world of work.

The Learning Support Assistant will be responsible for assisting trainees in the classroom as they complete various vocational qualifications, helping with prep work for classes and directly with trainees, where they need support with reading, writing or understanding in the classroom and during practical assessment tasks.

**Responsibilities and Duties**

**Trainee Support**:

- Assist the co-ordinator with the support and wellbeing of trainees with special educational needs e.g. enable access to the qualifications being delivered
- Participate in the evaluation of the support and encourage trainee’s participation in the programme.
- Contribute to baseline assessments of participants to assess the appropriate level of support required on the programme.
- Assist trainees to learn as effectively as possible both in group situations and on their own by assisting with the management of the learning environment through:

- clarifying and explaining instruction;
- ensuring the trainees are able to use equipment and materials provided;
- assisting in motivating and encouraging them as required;

- assisting in areas requiring reinforcement or development;
- promoting the independence of trainees to enhance learning;
- helping trainees stay on work set
- Uphold confidentiality at all times regarding AEL’s trainees and business activities

**Performance Standards**
- Support with trainees, parents/carers, schools, colleges, and any other relevant bodies to participate fully in the programme
- Contribute to operational and programme teams to ensure participant’s needs are being met and high quality standards are maintained in AEL’s business activities.
- Develop and maintain good relations with all AEL’s partners and stakeholders
- Promote the project to the public, media, partners and stakeholders
- Undertake personal development and training as is reasonably required to assist with the effective delivery of the role.
- Maintain a good standard of working practice
- setting example to others and maintaining good working relations with Senior Management, Staff, Trainees, Programme Participants, Suppliers,

Customers, Partners and Stakeholders.
- Comply with and promote all AEL’s policies and procedures.

**Documentation and Record Keeping**
- Assist with class session administration.
- Assist the Co-ordinator with the implementation of the system for recording the trainees progress.
- Provide regular feedback about the trainees to the co-ordinator
- Duplicate written materials, assist with production of charts and displays, record radio and television programmes, catalogue and process books and resources
- Ensure quality records are maintained so that they outline the participant’s journey on the programme.
- Ensure all documentation relating to participant’s is completed and maintained in an accurate, timely and respectful manner and in compliance with data protection policy
- Attend regular monitoring/evaluation meetings with stakeholders as required.

**Safety and Maintenance**
- To ensure that the production area and office spaces are well maintained at all times conductive to a safe and productive work environment.
- To actively comply with and promote all working policies and procedures.
- To uphold confidentiality at all times regarding AEL’s trainees and business.
- Be a representative of AEL’s Ethos and Values to the outside world and act as a role model and mentor to other staff, volunteers and trainees.

1. A minimum of 5 Level Two qualifications to include literacy and numeracy, (e.g. G.C.S.E. NVQ
