Support Worker Waking Nights
**Are you looking for night time work? Could you support people with learning disabilities?**
You will provide invaluable support to 10 people aged 25-70. They all have either a physical or learning disability and or autism. They will be sharing a new home in Birkenhead. The house is split into 10 individual flats spread over three floors. This is a new service so the people moving in will be central in making decisions about how the service develops. They already have plans for the large outside area where they plan to create a sensory garden, flower beds and a vegetable patch. The house is equipped with a lift, assistive technology, is fully accessible and dementia friendly. We will be supporting everyone no matter what their need to be as independent as possible and to learn new life skills. We always deliver support in a person centred way and you will be fully trained with a range of new positive behaviour skills.
**About the role**
The people we support are very active during the day and may want to chat about their activities and what they've been up to before they go to bed. What they really need, is someone who is available when they are wakeful at night and to check at regular intervals to ensure they are comfortable and getting a good night's sleep ready for the next day. You will need to provide support with personal care or medication.
Your role will also include cleaning duties to ensure the home is tidy for the morning. This is an important role to make sure people feel safe at all times and not vulnerable during the night so this is more about providing an emotional reassurance
We asked John*, June and Sarah* what they want from their new support team. Here's what they had to say.
John is in his twenties and is moving into his first home without his parents. He loves to travel on the bus and trains each day. John is also a budding DJ and will take his decks to different venues to entertain everyone. He wants staff that will support him with his hobbies and help him to develop new skills to look after his flat.
June has a sight impairment so will require lots of support to get to know her new environment, June loves music and being outside. June wants staff that are patient with her and explain what is going on in the world round her so she can be part of this. Maybe some green fingered staff that can help develop the sensory garden with her.
Sarah is really looking forward to living in her own flat, she talks about it every day and how she is going to have her furniture and what colour curtains she will have. Sarah attends day centre 3 days a week and loves to go the disco. Sarah loves to sing on her karaoke so good singers (or peoples that are willing to try) are a must for Sarah.
We are hoping you might have new ideas on things they might like to do. You come up with the ideas and they'll soon tell you if they are good ones.
As you've probably worked out John*, June and Sarah* are full of life and fun to be with, could you support them to lead lives that make sense to them?
You will be joining a team that includes a number of experienced staff from MacIntyre. We can offer both full and part-time roles. Shifts include days, nights, sleep-ins and weekend work. So just let us know what hours work best for you.
