**Job Description**:
**Head of News Production**

The news production department is responsible for the sub-editing, digital publishing and print production of the news sections in The Times and The Sunday Times.

We are looking for someone with significant experience in managing people and change, and they will work with senior editors and production staff as well as the product development team.

**Responsibilities**

+ Manage the news production team while supporting the editorial independence of two newspapers

+ Overall responsibility for digital and print production, including the website and tablet editions

+ Play a key role in the digital transformation of the newsroom, including workflows, tooling and the development of digital storytelling

+ Manage the news production team, maximising the potential of each person by actively supporting their development

+ Work with the news desks, design and pictures to produce editions as efficiently as possible, meeting deadlines

+ Be part of the revise structure, revising copy and giving feedback where appropriate to sub-editors

+ Work with the live news team, audience team and forward planning on publishing strategy to best optimise content performance

+ Budget management for the department

**Skills and experience**

+ Experience of leading an editorial team at a national publisher

+ Strong level of expertise in publishing on multi-platform digital products

+ Able to identify and implement efficient ways of working that reduce editorial costs

+ Impeccable copy-editing and headline-writing skills

+ Passionate about digital storytelling

+ Aware of the relevance of search engine optimisation and metadata for the digital platforms

+ Persuasive presentation skills, well-developed interpersonal skills, with the ability to solve problems and negotiate positive outcomes

+ Able to communicate succinctly and effectively

+ Experience of working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams

+ A strong understanding of editorial compliance and regulatory issues

**We offer a flexible working arrangement where employees are expected to be in the office a minimum of three days per week. For the remaining two days, there is the option to work remotely if desired.**
