**Volunteer Gardener**

Become a volunteer and learn new skills, meet others and gain valuable experience in a variety of roles. Maintaining our gardens which in turn will assist patients in their end of life care here at Teesside Hospice.

**Locations**:Teesside Hospice, 1 Northgate Road, Middlesbrough

**Aim**: To maintain the Teesside Hospice grounds which will help inpatients in their end-of-life care

**Gardening volunteers will**:
Support patients who are approaching end of life through maintaining the grounds of Teesside Hospice.

Support family member to be able to go and have a break safe in the surrounding gardens.

Maintaining the grounds to provide therapeutic care and interaction to patients.

Maintain outside of the ward environment to allow them the freedom to walk around.

To act as an ambassador for Teesside Hospice and promote the hospice service.

**Your role will include**:
Planting, moving, maintenance of the lawns.

Leaf clearance, path clearance, mulching, pruning, weeding.

Perform horticultural tasks to develop, enhance, and conserve the garden.

Removing weeds and general garden maintenance.

Maintenance of trees, shrubs, and plants, as well as moving grass.

**Personal qualities**:

Ability to work alone and as part of team

Polite and approachable

Professional approach

**Administrative responsibilities**:
Show respect, good manners, workplace etiquette

Adhere to all hospice policies and procedures

**Policy and service development**:
Act as an ambassador for Teesside Hospice and promote the service

**Training requirements**:
Teesside Hospice mandatory training

Volunteer induction training

Any other training identified as appropriate to the role
- including communication skills.

**Your commitment**:
Your commitment to this role will be discussed on an individual basis. We ask that all volunteers commit to a minimum of two hours per week

All patients, carers, visitors and staff within Teesside Hospice Care Foundation

**Uniform**:
Volunteer polo shirt (provided)

Teesside Hospice volunteer badge (provided)

**Job Types**: Part-time, Volunteer
Part-time hours: 2 per week

**Salary**: £0.01 per year
