We are looking for a compassionate and experienced Horse Groom to completely run and oversee a lovely small family yard in Somerset. This is a full-time Monday - Friday position looking after 1 lovely Shetland pony and 3 gorgeous hacking horses. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who loves the countryside, has a love for animals and is looking to develop their career as a Horse Groom.

You should be a confident rider and have experience in all aspects of horse care including grooming, washing, feeding, shoeing and dentistry. You must also be able to identify when a horse may need specialized or urgent care from a vet. You will be responsible for all the horses’ tack and equipment as well as all yard maintenance equipment.

The family of 5 live between Somerset and London, you will be responsible to ensure the horses should be washed, groomed and tacked up and ready for family use as and when requested. You will also be responsible for the family’s 3 dogs when they are in residence - which would include feeding and walking them.

Aside from horse care, you will also be responsible for the yard and stable upkeep which would include daily mucking out, maintaining the muckheap and keeping the yard tidy and clean by putting everything away properly each day. Other duties would include security - making sure all horses, tack and equipment are securely put away every day and ensuring all electric fencing and gates are working properly, as well as ordering all hay, feed, bedding and general horse-related supplies when needed.

Weekly communication and updates will be required to the family office as well as all payments, holiday requests, sick day logs and general queries.

**DUTIES TO INCLUDE BUT NOT LIMITED TO**:

- Ensuring the well-being of each individual horse
- Grooming, washing, clipping, shoeing, and dentistry of the horses
- Organising inoculations for the animals when needed
- Implementing a functional, seasonal routine for the horses
- Yard and stable upkeep
- Yard security - ensuring horses and equipment are secured daily
- Keeping stock of all hay, feed and general supplies and ordering more when needed
- Maintaining horses’ paddocks including making sure the electric fencing and gates are in good working order
- Ragwort and thistle clearing and overall health and rotation of their pasture
- Admin duties such as weekly reports, budgets and holiday requests

**ESSENTIAL CRITERIA**:

- Prior Horse Grooming experience
- Adhering to the general yard rules as implemented by the principals
- Fluency in English
- Eligibility to work in the UK
- Hardworking and dedicated
- Trustworthy and reliable
- Calm, discreet and respectful
- Excellent checkable references
