We are seeking a reliable and dedicated Kitchen Assistant to join our team at an elderly care home to support the cook with the smooth operation of the kitchen. This role is essential to maintaining high standards of health and safety while contributing to the overall well-being of our residents. Applicants will be required to cover the cook duties for annual leave so experience preparing meals for large groups is essential. Please note that you will be paid a different wage when covering cook duties.

Key Responsibilities:
Meal Preparation Support: Assist the cook in the preparation of meals, including chopping vegetables, preparing ingredients, and basic cooking tasks as directed.

Serving Meals: Help serve meals to residents, ensuring proper portion control and dietary needs are adhered to.

Cleaning Duties: Ensure the kitchen is kept clean and organized, including washing dishes, cleaning surfaces, and maintaining a high standard of hygiene throughout all food preparation and storage areas.

Health & Safety: Adhere to all food hygiene regulations, ensuring that all kitchen equipment and areas comply with health and safety standards.

Stock Control: Assist with checking and storing food deliveries, ensuring that stock is rotated and food is stored correctly.

Collaboration: Work closely with kitchen and care home staff to provide an excellent service, ensuring the dietary needs of residents, including special requirements, are met.

Waste Management: Dispose of kitchen waste in accordance with care home policies, promoting sustainability where possible.

**Requirements**:

- Previous experience in catering environment is essential.
- Basic knowledge of food safety practices and culinary techniques.
- Ability to work efficiently in a team-oriented environment while maintaining a positive attitude.
- Strong organisational skills with attention to detail.
- Willingness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced kitchen setting.
- Flexibility to work various shifts, including weekends and holidays as needed.

**Job Types**: Part-time, Permanent

Pay: £11.44 per hour

Expected hours: 15 - 20 per week
