Consultant in Medical Oncology
This post is part time and held jointly between the Cancer Genetics Unit at the Royal Marsden and the Breast Unit at the West Middlesex Hospital. The post is based across both sites and comprises Cancer Genetics consultant sessions at the Royal Marsden and new Consultant sessions in the Breast Unit at the West Middlesex. The post is for 4 PA’s in Cancer Genetics, and 4 PA’s in Breast Medical Oncology.
The specific role of a clinician with experience in both Oncology and Genetics is required to support and facilitate the aspiration of the Royal Marsden Hospital to increase access to germline genetic testing. Building on the success of our mainstreaming model in breast and ovarian cancers, we are exploring digital technologies and transformation pathways both at RM, Genomic Medicine Service and national levels. Testing is increasingly performed in Oncology with Cancer Genetics services providing support, whilst focusing their expertise on patients found to have a genetic predisposition to cancer. A joint position between the Royal Marsden Cancer Genetics Unit and West Middlesex Breast unit will strengthen the existing close ties within our Genomics Laboratory Hub and facilitate good clinical care and research.
