Troup House School are recruiting for a cook to join their catering team We are looking for passionate people, who can promote healthy eating and provide varied meals that meet the required care standards and contribute to the wellbeing of our Children and Young People. In this role, you will be responsible for the cooking within the home as well as the menu planning, shopping and adhering to set budgets within the home to deliver healthy, varied and nutritious diets for young people and the staff within the home. In addition, be responsible for the ensuring that the kitchen and associated areas are kept to a high standard of hygiene, including food and equipment storage.

**Troup House School is a specialist day and residential school that has a strong reputation and proven track record for providing a high standard of education and care to young people between the ages of 8 to 16+ years with additional support needs including social, emotional and mental health difficulties, autistic spectrum conditions and challenging behaviour. Our young people may also experience difficulties with learning as a result of the effects of trauma, disrupted educational experiences and multiple residential placements.**
**Duties of the role**:
- To promote healthy eating and varied meals that contribute to the wellbeing of our pupils.
- Undertakes the planning, preparation and cooking of meals, taking account of any special requests and dietary requirements.
- Ensures the cost-effective and efficient control of stock including placing orders for food products and the checking and rotation of deliveries. Ensures that wastage is minimised.
- Research and create new menus and a varied and healthy diet within budget.

A Level 3 qualification or equivalent is an essential requirement, as well as previous experience preparing and cooking meals gained within a professional kitchen environment along with the following characteristics:
**Communication** - Communicating with our young people is vital to understand their needs. Good teamwork and communication plays a key part in ensuring important information is relayed to other staff.
**Organisation** -You will need to be confident and organised in updating menus, dietary requirements and reporting information that will be relevant to the care of our young people.
**Attentive** - No young person is the same so being attentive to understand them and identify areas where we can support is important.
