Chelsea and Westminster NHS Foundation Trust, Neonatal Units are proud to have commenced their journey towards UNICEF Neonatal Baby Friendly Initiative Accreditation.
The role advertised involves supporting the Baby Friendly Initiative leads to maintain and uphold the Baby Friendly standards on the neonatal unit, through supporting all families beyond discharge and assisting in teaching of staff. The post holder will also be instrumental in maintaining accreditation status. This role may occasionally require cross-site working.

Work with the nursing staff to support the families on the unit in accordance with the UNICEF baby friendly standards. Support staff to ensure families are undertaking skin to skin/ Kangaroo care on a regular basis and to promote the benefits. Support nursing staff to undertake expressing and feeding assessments when scheduled.
To promote breastfeeding on the unit, educating families on the short and long-term benefits for both mother and baby. To support families with bottle feeding if it is their wish to do so. To advise on positioning and encourage responsive feeding Provide parent craft teaching on topics including infant feeding, baby massage, safe bottle-feeding, etc.
To work with the BFI lead to carry out 1:1 sessions with nursing staff to ensure they are able to document assessments correctly on Cerner. To ensure BFI data is completed on Badgernet and to support nurses with this. To work with the Baby Friendly Initiative (BFI) Leads to ensure all new staff carry out their orientation and complete their 2 day and full day Baby Friendly study days. To also assist the BFI leads in completing Practice Skills Reviews. work with the BFI lead to complete parents, staff and environmental audits every 4 months, to evaluate the findings and negotiate action plans if needed..

We are currently spending £25 million on expanding our adult and neonatal critical care facilities at Chelsea and Westminster and redevelopment of our children’s unit at West Middlesex - in partnership with our charity, CW+ and generous donors.
