**WHAT YOU’LL DO**
As a member of the Structural Chemistry team, the NMR Spectroscopist will work closely with synthetic and medicinal chemists, computational chemists and other members of the structural team to contribute to projects at various stages of drug discovery. This multidisciplinary group maintains the technology and expertise to provide innovative analytical and structural solutions to challenging drug discovery problems.
This is a hands-on laboratory position with a focus in NMR spectroscopy (experience in MS desirable), within a world leading global medicinal chemistry group with a history of delivery and innovation.
**Main Accountabilities**
- Ensuring the quality, delivery and development of NMR spectroscopy science and support to multiple concurrent drug discovery projects within AstraZeneca’s Oncology R&D unit.
- Contribute to the motivation and engagement of members of the analytical and structural chemistry team and medicinal chemistry department.
- Support the development/strengthening of Open Access capability, including training of medicinal chemists on NMR systems and platforms.
- Help develop and implement solutions for data mining & lab automation and, together with our IT experts, derive strategies for innovative data management approaches across different analytical platforms.
**Essential Requirements**
- Degree or Ph.D. in chemistry-related discipline and significant hands-on NMR experience obtained in a pharmaceutical and/or chemical industry or academia.
- Strong problem-solving skills in structural and quantitative NMR.
- Ability to work effectively as a member of a multidisciplinary team which includes computational chemistry, medicinal chemistry, and organic synthesis.
- Detailed and up-to-date knowledge of small molecule solution NMR spectroscopy and Bruker spectrometers.
- Experience with structural and analytical software, such as ACD/Labs, MNova and predictive analytics.
- Familiarity with computational chemistry and molecular visualization software advantageous.
- Proficient in experimental design and laboratory equipment.
- Develops understanding of how his/her own work impacts the project team's objectives and R&D discovery.
**Desirable Requirements**
- Hands on experience of Mass Spectrometry and/or separations sciences
- External scientific profile with a track record of publications.
