The Programme

Are you looking for an **internship **that offers varied and interesting opportunities? At Smiths Detection we have a fantastic opportunity to earn as you learn and provide a real-world introduction into Project Management.

We are seeking a Project Management Intern with a positive and proactive attitude to join our Programmes team for a large technology and engineering business based in Hemel Hempstead. It’s an excellent opportunity for a bright and driven individual to get an insight into a career in Project Management within an engineering environment.

Over the course of the internship the individual will gain a thorough understanding of the business, with time spent with various teams, and exposure to project management and project controls within a technology development department.

Your duties will include, but not be limited to
- Assisting with the initiating, planning, monitoring & controlling, communicating and close-out phases of projects, contributing to the completion of Product Lifecycle Process Gates where applicable.
- Acting under direction coordinate specific activities of integrated project and/or cross-functional teams to contribute to the successful completion of milestones.
- Support with the maintenance of project records.
- Assist with the establishment and maintenance of cost and schedule baselines.
- Contribute to monthly variance analysis for explaining and interpreting impact against the baseline. Support with the completion and tracking of corrective/preventative actions.
- Support the effective execution of project controls related to the initiating, planning, monitoring & controlling, communicating and close-out phases of all projects in their assigned portfolio.
- Support the completion of timely, accurate and standardised project reporting.
- Support with the creation of inclusive and coordinated project environments to achieve project success.
- Ensure individual compliance with company policies for Ethics, Health, Safety and Environment.

About You

Minimum Entry Requirements
- 5 GCSE or equivalent at grade 4-9
- Level 2 in Maths and English

- A natural passion to deliver against commitments.

- Fluent in written communications and able to articulate complex issues.
- Willingness to learn new skills.
