**Job summary**:
The Defence School of Transport (DST), was formed in 1996 to provide driver and transport management training to personnel from the Army, Royal Air Force and Royal Marines.
The school trains 10,000 service personnel every year, delivering outstanding training on road-going and specialist military vehicles. Training is conducted in classrooms, lecture theatres, demonstration areas, a purpose-built road and cross-country training area and on public roads.
DST can train up to 1,500 personnel at any time making us the largest residential driving school in the World. We are recognised as a ‘Centre of Excellence’ by: DHL, Eddie Stobart, the US Army, the US Marine Corps and the French Army amongst others. To meet this vast training task our dedicated establishment of 700 military and civilian personnel operates a fleet of 600 vehicles ranging from saloon cars to Mechanical Handling Equipment (MHE) professional to specialist military trucks and lease-hire LGV. Our commitment is to put the trainee at the heart of everything and is key to the school’s success.

We are looking to recruit a cohort of Driving Instructors to deliver:
- Practical examination of Driver Training
- Theory instruction
As a Driving Instructor, you will provide high quality training to our trainees, enabling them to meet the licence test standards of Cat B, C, C+E, D1 and D elements of the UK Driving Licence qualifications, including both vehicle and associated documentation training. All instruction is delivered in accordance with current Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency regulations and guidelines.
You will be responsible for reporting vehicle defects and any accidents occurring during training, for the care and maintenance of training equipment allocated to you and be part of our safety culture.
You will ensure student record cards are kept up to date, highlighting training deficiencies and shortfalls.
There may be the opportunity to work overtime should you wish to volunteer.

**Person specification**:
It is essential that:
- Applicants hold a current C+E licence (with no restrictions).
- Applicants have held a Category C driving licence for a minimum of 5 years with no more than 3 current penalty points.
- Applicants be free from any driving disqualifications for the previous 4 years (from the termination point of the disqualification).
- Applicants need to have effective oral and written communication skills.
Previous instructional experience is desirable; however, we will give you on-the-job training.
All DST Driving Instructors are required to achieve the Defence Trainer Qualification within 6 months of starting. Training will be provided to support you in gaining this qualification.
**Licences**:
- Category C licence held for a minimum of 5 years with no more than 3 current penalty points and must be free from any driving disqualifications for the previous 4 years (from the termination point of the disqualification).
- Holding a full C+E licence is an essential requirement (with no restrictions).**Behaviours**:
