An exciting opportunity has arisen for a passionate and creative Tutor to join our Supported Internship programme within our Lifestyle and Works team. You will have the opportunity to join a friendly and supportive team to help young people with a learning disability/difficulty.
As a Tutor on Mencap's Interns and Outcomes programme you will teach English and Maths by embedding it into lessons about employability. We also teach further life skills that will have a direct impact on the way your learners interact with their wider community. This role would suit someone who is looking for an opportunity to create fun and engaging lessons by thinking outside the box. To see what we do please click hereMencap's Supported Internships combines education and work experience to prepare our learners for employment. As a Tutor you will focus on the delivery of the educational element of Supported Internships programmes and will work closely with a group of Caseworkers to provide holistic support in finding paid employment.
The role is part time (22.5 hours, 3 days per week) and based in the Walthamstow area. Some occasional travel may be required.
Key skills and requirements for a Tutor (essential):
- Experience of supporting people
- Experience of delivering against targets
- Experience of working with a diverse group of learners
- A-C/9-4 English & Maths GCSE (or equivalent)
- Recognised teaching qualification at level 5 (DTLLS, PGCE, CertEd)
- Knowledge and experience of delivering and assessing functional skills English and Maths up to level 2
- Experience & knowledge of safe working practices
- Good classroom management skills and strategies
- Good time management and planning skills
This role would suit a highly motivated person with significant experience of work-based SEN teaching and looking to pursue a teaching career. Mencap will sponsor the right person to achieve a Level 5 in teaching, as part of their CPD. This role is responsible for the delivery of embedded Maths, English, IT and employability skills within different work-based sectors such as hospitality or logistics. Working closely with learners you will develop learning that supports people to overcome the barriers they face to securing paid employment
