Supported Accommadation Mental Health Worker

As a Supported Accommodation Mental Health Support Worker, you will assist individuals with mental health conditions in supported housing environments, helping them to manage their symptoms, enhance their quality of life, and work toward achieving greater independence. You will provide both practical and emotional support, promoting recovery, and ensuring that residents feel safe and empowered in their living environment.
**Key Responsibilities**:
- **Provide Practical Support**:
- Assist individuals with daily living tasks such as meal preparation, household chores, personal hygiene, and budgeting.
- Support residents with medication management, ensuring they take prescribed medication correctly and monitor for side effects.
- Help clients in maintaining a clean, organized, and safe living space.
- **Emotional and Social Support**:
- Offer a listening ear, emotional support, and encouragement to individuals, building trust and rapport.
- Assist residents in developing coping strategies for managing stress, anxiety, and other mental health challenges.
- Facilitate social interaction and community involvement, promoting positive relationships with peers and neighbors.
- **Mental Health Monitoring**:
- Monitor the mental health and wellbeing of residents, identifying signs of deterioration or improvement.
- Document and report changes in mental health status or behavior to the relevant healthcare team members.
- Implement individualized care plans and recovery goals tailored to each resident’s needs.
- **Promote Independent Living**:
- Encourage and empower clients to develop skills that support independent living (e.g., cooking, cleaning, budgeting, and personal care).
- Provide practical advice and guidance on housing matters, social services, and employment or educational opportunities.
- **Advocacy and Referral**:
- Act as an advocate for residents, ensuring their voices are heard and that their rights are respected.
- Assist clients in accessing other services such as healthcare, therapy, legal assistance, and social support networks.
- Support clients in crisis situations and ensure they are connected with relevant crisis services when necessary.
- **Collaboration**:
- Work closely with other mental health professionals (e.g., social workers, counselors, psychiatrists) to ensure a holistic approach to client care.
- Participate in team meetings to discuss care plans and the progress of individuals in the accommodation.
**Skills & Qualifications**:
- **Experience**:
- Prior experience working with individuals who have mental health issues or in supported accommodation settings is required for 2 years minimum.
- Knowledge of mental health disorders, recovery-based approaches, and safeguarding protocols.
- **Qualifications**:
- NVQ 2 Health and social care
- Driveer wit business insurance
- Nalaxone Training within the last 12 months
- **Personal Skills**:
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to build rapport and trust with vulnerable individuals.
- Compassionate, patient, and empathetic approach.
- Ability to remain calm in stressful or challenging situations.
- Good problem-solving skills and the ability to make decisions independently.
- **Additional Requirements**:
- Criminal background checks (DBS) may be required due to working with vulnerable individuals.
- Some roles may require evening, weekend, or on-call shifts depending on the accommodation setting.
**Working Environment**:
- The role typically involves working in a residential or community-based setting, such as a supported living house or group home, where you’ll provide on-site assistance to individuals.
