Birch Avenue Nursing Home provides 40 nursing home beds for people with complex dementia. The Registered Provider and owner is South Yorkshire Housing Association, and we work in partnership with Sheffield Health and Social Care Foundation Trust. The focus of the home is improvement and empowerment for the service user.
We are looking for a pleasant and friendly person to join the team, to work alongside and, at times, alone, with a good hold of communication and telephone skills, and basic computer skills, to maintain a high degree of confidentiality, relating to our residents, in accordance with Trust policies and procedures.
Birch Avenue is now opening its doors to Nursing Associates to expand our skillset within the team to ensure our residents receive the most appropriate care.
The valued role of the Nursing Associate will sit alongside existing registered nurses and healthcare support workers and play a key part in the delivery of patient care.
As part of our team, you will be expected to be flexible and work shifts over a 24-hour basis, including weekends and Bank Holidays.
**The main duties of the role include**:
- To deliver high quality, compassionate care as per individualised care plans.
- To work as part of the designated clinical care team supporting evaluation and review of care amongst the MDT to ensure our residents receive the highest quality care.
- Carry out specific clinical and care tasks including hands on care to residents. This may include but is not limited to, washing, dressing, Bathing/showering, and feeding.
- Assisting in delivery feedback and supervision to junior members of staff.
- Engaging in training opportunities for personal and professional development.

A few examples of B4 Nursing Associate duties expected are as follows:
- Working within the nursing process carrying out appropriate assessment, planning, Implementation, and evaluation of care delivery to ensure our residents are receiving appropriate and high-quality care.
- Supporting residents with all aspects of daily living to provide person centred care to promote health and independence.
- Carry out all physical observations when required including, BP, pulse, BMI, Blood glucose, resps and temperature.
- Accurately document all care delivery in residents’ notes.
- Manage shifts and delegate tasks to junior members of staff, managing time appropriately.
- Share skill set and knowledge with team, working as a role model to others in the team, to ensure our residents receive high quality care.
- Deliver hands on care meeting all needs based on individual care plan, including administering medications, washing, bathing, feeding, and dressing.
- Working within the MDT making sure all appropriate teams are involved with residents when necessary.
- Engage with supervision, yearly appraisals and team meetings, training opportunities for personal and professional development, working under all Trust policy and procedures, National legislation, and Health and Safety protocol to ensure a safe working environment.
- Promote independence, maintaining confidentiality, residents’ level of capacity, consent, choice and understanding. Working under good understanding of MC Act and DOLs and how these impacts on daily practices at Birch Avenue.
- Engage residents in all planned activities in and out of the work environment.
